Simon and Garfunkel

Post by Sunbaneglasses »

I love me some Simon and Garfunkel, I can't really think of many songs that like much more than Sound Of Silence, or The Boxer. So many great songs sang so well.

Slow down, you move too fast.
You got to make the morning last.
Just kicking down the cobble stones.
Looking for fun and feelin' groovy.

Hello lamppost,
What cha knowing?
I've come to watch your flowers growing.
Ain't cha got no rhymes for me?
Doot-in' doo-doo,
Feelin' groovy.

Got no deeds to do,
No promises to keep.
I'm dappled and drowsy and ready to sleep.
Let the morning time drop all its petals on me.
Life, I love you,
All is groovy.

I used to go out with a girl who loved Simon and Garfunkel. When she put on some of their stuff, I was surprised by how many songs I knew without having attributed them to Simon and Garfunkel. I've been meaning to pick up a 'best of' or something.

From memory, I think Hazy Shade of Winter and The Boxer were my favourites.

I like the slower, songs and the "story" songs the best. On the slower songs you can really savor the harmony, Art Garfunkel is a high harmony badass.

I love the Wednesday Morning, 3 AM album. The original version of The Sound of Silence is even better than the great, more popular version, imo. Bleecker Street and the title song are great!

And then there's the rest of their albums. Yeah, one of the best music acts ever.

Paul also did enough incredible stuff alone. Guy's a genius.
All lies and jest
Still a man hears what he wants to hear
And disregards the rest

I hear the drizzle of the rain
Like a memory it falls
Soft and warm continuing
Tapping on my roof and walls

And from the shelter of my mind
Through the window of my eyes
I gaze beyond the rain-drenched streets
To England where my heart lies

My mind's distracted and diffused
My thoughts are many miles away
They lie with you when you're asleep
And kiss you when you start your day

And a song I was writing is left undone
I don't know why I spend my time
Writing songs I can't believe
With words that tear and strain to rhyme

And so you see I have come to doubt
All that I once held as true
I stand alone without beliefs
The only truth I know is you

And as I watch the drops of rain
Weave their weary paths and die
I know that I am like the rain
There but for the grace of you go I
Love prevails.
