What Lena's Artwork might have looked like...

Post by deer of the dawn »

Okay, so this artist uses driftwood, not stone. Still, I admit that the description of the stone sculptures she made gave me mental images of something clunky and crude. This proves that naturally formed things can be used in AMAZING ways to portray the grace and strength of horses. Click here. Follow the links to see the sculptures.

This kind of stuff amazes me!! As I've said before, I can't draw a stick-figure of a person that is recognizable as a person. How someone can put pieces of driftwood together...

Ah...
I am fortunate to know a local sculptor, whose work with wood always fit my visualization of her art.

Here are a few examples...

Other pieces, including paintings and more wood sculptures

I prefer the unpainted pieces myself.

The way his pieces flow from a single piece reminds me of how I picture her manipulating the stone...

That's really awesome, BH. I've been dabbling in art since I was a kid and I simply CAN'T imagine how to begin creating something that requires that kind of ingenuity. The ability to craft a forced perspective, 3d creation like those are just amazing. Really impressive.

Well speaking as someone who can barely draw a straight line, all this stuff just leaves me stunned!

yeah...your brain really has to see things differently to pull something like that off.I cant imagine trying to draw something that was supposed to have a certain effect when viewed from one angle..and then trying to draw from within the artwork itself trying to preserve the outside aspect.. seems you would almost need a person outside saying..a little to the left etc... which is probably the case..but the Anundivian Yajna horse works.. those I was wondering if he possibly was able to bend the driftwood..with some solution maybe.. like actual marrowmeld with wood. that really is great artwork.

hehehe.. I love that spiderman falling on his head clip..ive been laughing everytime i see it.

Those are some very impressive and beautiful sculptures! Personally I fall into the "Zero Artistic Ability" category. But I do sincerely appreciate those who have it.

Aren't they though? I've been a fan of Rick Cain's work ever since I first came across it in the 1980's.
