Gap Dissection

Post by Stutty »

Has a dissection of the Gap ever been done/attempted here at the watch?

I know we're in the middle of an FR dissect right now, and my contribution will be coming up next week. I had so much fun working on it I really want to do the same for the Gap.

we slammed through TRS just before FR came out. we figured once FR dissection is over we'd do the rest of The Gap.
i think thats what we figured anyway.
i don't actually remember what we figured.

Damn, I dunno...I'm lazy and busy and tired.

I suppose if enough people get involved, I'd do a chapter. But involvement is gonna be the problem.

(Edit: I can't believe its been 5 years since we dissected TRS. I remember doing it so clearly...)

Since it's me, I'm not going to nicely ask for involvement - I'll cut to threats.

The less people take part in the dissections, the more likely you'll never hear the end of their boasting - mine in particular.

Also, I call dibs on the second Angus chapter. I may call back in some special case, but I'll recommend not to be too hopeful.
I have many names... and may play many roles

So that it's clear: I'm not the Lord Foul who was on the Watch before, from 26.10.2002 to 16.06.2012

One of these days, I'm going to revive the proposal that we dissect Forbidden Knowledge.

Agreed.

According to SRD's latest, his editors seem to think the The War Within is going to be his best work ever. Since many of us feel the Gap is currently his masterpiece, ought we not do justice to a deep dive into these books, as has been done for the three TCTC series and for Mordant? We can't complete that project before the next Great God's War volume, but we can at least make a start.

I'm certainly willing to do several chapter dissections. If we really can find enough people who want to do this, then we can contact lucimay about it. I propose that we can use the already-posted dissections by Effaeldm and Lord Foul as a launching point. What do my fellow Gap fans think of that idea?

Not entirely sure, but if this actually happens, I can try to take a chapter or a few as well.

Welcome back, Effy! You have been missed, having been MIA since 8 Nov 2016.
Why would that date stand out in my mind? :?
Good to know you're still reading the Watch. Looking forward to continuing to see your posts.

I'm thinking about doing a group re-read, Sky, with chapter dissections of Forbidden Knowledge to be posted in Ancillary Documentation! The first two chapter dissections were done in 2012-3 by Lord Foul and Effaeldm (and they are both great, in my opinion!), so people can post comments on those threads anytime they feel like it. If we're serious and really want to get this going, then I'll need to PM lucimay (moderator of Ancillary Documentation subforum) to make it all official. For now, I propose to post a dissection of the third chapter of FK, entitled "Chapter 2" (I resolve this seeming contradiction by telling myself, "Well, it's the second chapter of Morn's story in FK, but it's still the third chapter of FK") by Saturday, May 17th. I am willing to do a majority of the FK chapters, but would like some volunteers to help out with the rest. Here's where we stand right now:

1. Angus [1] (by Lord Foul--already posted)
2. Chapter 1 (by Effaeldm--already posted)
3. Chapter 2 (by Cord Hurn--already posted)
4. Chapter 3 (by Skyweir--already posted)
5. Ancillary Documentation/Datacores (by Cord Hurn--already posted)
6. Chapter 4 (by Cord Hurn--already posted)
7. Chapter 5 (by Cord Hurn--already posted)
8. Chapter 6 (by Cord Hurn--already posted)
9. Ancillary Documentation/Intertech (by Cord Hurn--already posted)
10. Angus [2] (by Lord Foul--already posted)
11. Chapter 7 (by Skyweir--already posted)
12. Chapter 8 (by Cord Hurn--already posted)
13. Chapter 9 (by Cord Hurn--already posted)
14. Ancillary Documentation/The Amnion [1] (by Cord Hurn--already posted)
15. Chapter 10 (by Cord Hurn--already posted)
16. Chapter 11 (by Cord Hurn--already posted)
17. Chapter 12 (by Cord Hurn--already posted)
18. Ancillary Documentation/The Amnion [2] (by Cord Hurn--already posted)
19. Chapter 13 (by StevieG--already posted)
20. Chapter 14 (by Cord Hurn--already posted)
21. Chapter 15 (by Cord Hurn--already posted)
22. Ancillary Documentation/Gap Drive (by Effaeldm--already posted)
23. Angus [3] (by Avatar--already posted)
24. Chapter 16 (by Avatar--already posted)
25. Chapter 17 (by Cord Hurn--already posted)
26. Chapter 18 (by Cord Hurn--already posted)
27. Ancillary Documentation/The Preempt Act (by Skyweir--already posted)
28. Chapter 19 (by Cord Hurn--already posted)
29. Chapter 20 (by Avatar--already posted)
30. Chapter 21 (by Cord Hurn--already posted)
31. Angus [4] (by Cord Hurn--already posted)

If anybody is interested in doing a/some FK chapter(s), perhaps it's a good idea to indicate preferences here in this topic thread. If this project seems like it's going to take off, I will make sure that lucimay knows about it (edit: lucimay has been sent a PM by me about this project; no reply from her, as yet). Either way, I'm going to post my dissection of FK's third chapter, "Chapter 2", by Saturday, May 17th. It will be interesting to see how many of you would like to join in on this project!! :cross:

[FINAL EDIT, June 25, 2019: It's done! Thanks to Avatar, Skyweir, Lord Foul, Effaeldm, and StevieG for their fantastic help!]

I'm keen CH - any excuse to re-read again.

I'll probably miss my deadlines a few times but will definitely attempt to post a chapter.
