Does Friday the 13th effect you?

Oh yeah. I'm not leaving my house until after midnight

Friday the 13th June 2008

Does Friday the 13th effect you at all or is it just something to talk about?

I just spoke to a woman at a store that rattled off about 25 things that have gone wrong this morning and she wished me good luck and said I should be careful today.
I thanked her for her kind words but I don't think all the rotten things that are going to happen in the world wait until a certain day to spring their trap.

I'm guessing things will play out as they normally would but perhaps you feel otherwise.

Truthfully, I'm with you, Tom.
But, it is fun to blame things on the day when possible.

I read a study about Friday the 13th and they proved it to be a bunch of BS. If everyone expects something to go wrong it will. Sumconcious motives.

To be perfectly honest, I look forward to Friday the 13th as they tend to be better days than usual for me. I guess I'm the yang to everyone else's yin

I got married on a Friday the 13th. Deliberately. So no, I don't think there's anything to it. So what if we're divorced now?

I am not at all superstitious, but I have had enough truly awful things happen to me on Friday the 13th to kind of wonder...

Not this time around, though. Today is going to rock.

It's just bunch of hype. I've had worse days that weren't Friday the 13th.

Yup. It's just a number.

Yes, but it's a number with a stigma.

I think it gives people an excuse to focus only on the negative things that happen today, and not the positive. But there's the same probability of good/bad things happening today as there is any other day.

On top of that, it's my ladyfriend, Claire's, birthday today. :D

Maybe we should invent an opposite? a lucky day instead of an unlucky one? I was going to propose a saturday the somethingth, but with most people not at work, it wouldn't get talked about.

How about Friday the 7th's?

I like that idea, Stone. And a lot of people associate the number 7 as a lucky number, for whatever reason.

...off to the birthday thread to wish Claire a happy birthday...

I dig that, man.

Friday the Seventh.

Maybe they'll make a MOVIE about it! :D

I voted "Um...I guess so"... but for a different reason.
While everyone else is moping around and bummed about Friday the 13th,
this is usually this day brings GOOD luck for me.
(I know - I'm weird.)

So far today:
1) I've won the (so-called) dart tournament at work,
2) Found a $20 bill,
3) Didn't get caught in rush-hour traffic because we left work 1 hour early,
4) Chatted a friend that I haven't seen in 4 years.

And how was YOUR day?
Have you hugged your arghule today?
