What scene or character would you want to see the most?

Post by Kevin164 »

I've been sketching out characters and ideas for the second chronicles for about a month now before joining Kevin's Watch. I've been looking to fatten up my portfolio with story boards and I just do not want to do car or beer commercials, bleah boring.

So I was wondering what scene would you want to see? I am not a great artist nor am I a attention monger. I consider myself a cartoonist and a run of the mill illustrator, so for me I would love to see such artists like Christian Lorenz Scheurer, Iain McCaig, Ryan Church, and George Hull take a crack at the Thomas Covenant series.

I would give it a serious try to create a conceptual piece on an unanimous scene picked by Kevin's Watch that would rank with the artists I have listed.I need to in order to get a yob. :)

For me I would love to do the battle between Vain and the corrupted Ur-Viles.

Mhoram's victory? Although, anything with Vain kicking ass would be cool :)

You can also run a poll once you have a few scene suggestions?

Mhoram's Victory would be a good one. Other impactful scenes (at least for me):

The Rite of Spring
The Firelions
The summoning of Hile Troy
Vain emerging from the river and absorbing the sunlight
The Soothtell
"Desert Sun" (the first touch following a fertile period)
Two scenes involving the Banefire
- Covenant purging himself
- Nom extinguishing it with the flow from Glimmermere
Linden's formation of the new Staff
Linden's healing of the Land
- Woody -
Linden Lover and proud of it...

Off the top of my head...
The great gates stood open for three days while the Haruchai commanders tasted the grandeur of Revelstone. They experienced the laughing genial power of the Giants who had made the Keep, received the confident offer of Kevin's Council to supply the Haruchai freely whatever they needed for as long as their need lasted. When the commanders returned to their army, they sat astride prancing Ranyhyn, which had come from the Plains of Ra at Kevin's call and had chosen to bear the Haruchai. Korik and his peers were of one mind. Something new was upon them, something beyond instinctive kinship with Ranyhyn, beyond friendship and awe for the Giants, beyond even the fine entrancement of Revelstone itself. The Haruchai were fighters, accustomed to wrest what they required: they could not accept gifts without making meet return.

Therefore that night the army from the Westron Mountains gathered under the south wall of Revelstone. All the Haruchai joined their minds together and out of their common strength forged the metal of the Vow - unalloyed and unanswerable, accessible to no appeal or flaw, unambergrised by the promise of any uncorrupt end: a Vow like the infernal oath upon the river of death which binds even the gods. This they wrought out of the extremity and innocence of their hearts, to match the handiwork of the Giants and the mastery of the Lords. As they spoke the hot words - Ha-man rual tayba-sah carab ho-eeal - the ground seemed to grow hot and cognizant under their feet, as if the Earthpower were drawing near the surface to hear them. And when they brought their Vow around full circle, sealing it so that there was no escape, the rocks on which they stood thundered, and fire ran through them, sealing their bones to the promise they had made.

Cross-legged on the shelf sat an ancient man in a tattered colorless robe. His head was half bowed in an attitude of meditation. But his eyes were open. The milky hue of cataracts or blindness filled his orbs. Faint wisps of hair marked the top of his head; a gray stubble emphasized the hollowness of his cheeks. His skin was seamed with age, and his limbs had been starved to the point of emaciation. Yet he radiated an eerie and unfathomable strength.
The Ranyhyn were eager for a run after long days of constricted climbing, and they cantered out onto the flat rock. With surprising fleetness, Amok kept ahead of them. He laughed as he ran, and even increased his pace. The Ranyhyn stretched into full stride, began to gallop in earnest, leaving Covenant's mustang behind. But still Amok's prancing step outran them. Gaily, he led the riders east and then south down the center of the plateau.

Although there are alot of moving scenes, there are many that are just that - moving. They wouldn't lend themselves well to a still image. I tried to pick some that could retain their impact in two dimensions.

The Massacre of the Giants really couldn't be captured effectively in a single image, I don't think, or even a series of stills.

Yet we can dream of the day when good open source animation software is readily availble to those who have a talent for using it, and suggest the scenes we would most like to see...

And story boards would be a first step in creating those scenes, would they not?

:D

It is available right now...there are some really expensive ones out there but Bryce and Poser ...Vue d'esprit and some others terragen..not sure if it does animation though..those are fairly low priced..but the downside is that to render just 20 seconds of clouds moving through the southern wastes background i made took my slower computer 18 straight days for just 20 seconds of moving clouds, but thats on my older G4 400. im going to see if i can get Nom to at least run with those backward legs i made. if i can make him run..then who knows.
