Favorite Shyamalan Film??

The Sixth Sense, of course, but for me The Village runs close.

(In fact if there ever WAS a TC film, I'd like to see him do it *ducks tomatoes*. I think he could actually get John Q. Filmgoer to empathize with TC, which would be no small feat.)

I think Unbreakable was seriously under-appreciated. I absolutely loved it, and would have loved to see the rest of the trilogy it was intended to start.

Yes I have to agree. I know Sixth Sense got a lot of attention, but for me, Unbreakable had a quiet, slow tension that just kept building. For me, this was not about any (so called) surprise ending, but how Bruce's character is trying to cope with life as he is coming to knwo it.
Frightening and real ... this was a heart-wrencher and I loved it!

His other movies always have something that I like in them, although I have not seen Lady in the Water nor the most recent yet ...

Another vote here for Unbreakable. It was the most surprising to me, and another great performance by Bruce Willis.

Haven't seen the Happening but I'm guessing it may give Lady some competition for #5

I'd say the Village.
I really enjoyed it.
I loved the concept and the ending.
Even if the monsters were real and it had a different ending I would have liked it.
It just had a different look and feel from most movies.
Even the way people talked was pleasing.
Tough to explain.

I would have said Signs but the ending of that movie still angers me to this day.
Extremely well done and acted.
The ending made me want to kill everyone who signed off on it (no pun intended)

Sixth Sense and Unbreakable were my favorites. I hated Signs with a burning, flaming passion of a thousand suns, and have refused to watch any more of his movies.-jay

I don't think Signs was bad enough for me to hate it, but it was an incredibly stupid movie. (The first time the aliens appeared on screen? I burst out laughing. I don't think that's quite what he intended.)

What was the objection with the ending of Signs? Was it that

they could be killed by water? If so, then you must have missed the point to his career. He takes established genres and gives them a new spin and "artsifies" them. Signs was a 50's alien invasion sci-fi thing. There was a lot of that stupid killing of the monster thing going on through them.

Part of what you mentioned is my issue.

This page pretty much sums up how I feel about Signs.
And keep in mind until they came up from the cellar I loved the movie and had no problem suspending my disbelief.

i'll have to give Unbreakable another look.
oddly, i hardly remember it. i do remember how
dark the cinematography was tho. very dark.
i remember liking it but ger remembers not liking
it and thats really all either of us can remember of it.
i'll watch it again tho, since so many of you liked it.

i'm with HLT on The Village. lovely film. i really liked it.
haven't seen anything else by him but those three.

Signs: The ending, his daughters water connection, swing-away bro's bat, and the finale with his wife to mix it all together is brilliant and moving.
Unbreakable: a comix hero come to life, low key Bruce, son's pride and dad redeemed, loved it.
Sixth Sense: great concept, low key Bruce again makes the flick as well as the scene with kid and mom in car about Grandma's pride.
The Happening: hated it at first, but I keep thinking about parts of it often enough that I guess it is growing on me.
The Village: I have a crush on the blind girl, but that's the only good thing about the flick.
(haven't seen Lady in the Water)

For me its a toss up, Unbreakable was perfect, but in Signs he scared me with a dog, I cant discount that.
