LF, from the same thing that makes this place so special I think meeting people from the Watch can do better, not worse. I just have a feeling that can't do any harm to a place like this.

It seems to me forming small elitist groups on forums usually happens because the people want to be like that. When someone wants to have a group of "us high over everyone", an excuse can be just anything - meeting in real life, post count, time of being there, whatever else.

And three Elohimfests happened already. Doesn't look like there's some group forming here.

Vraith, as for possibly being disappointed, that doesn't look likely as well. But in this case the only thing to say really is that you won't know without trying.

lorin, I'm glad you also think of meeting the people from here as a good thing. Though sad you had all those scam problems. In case you need sometime again a way to check out the reality of some people, Skype can be used, because the IP check will show only those who don't know a thing about the internet and how to hide the IP. Skype is also not a panacea - people can just lie they can't or ask someone - in case they have anyone to ask. But at least more reliable then the IPs.

I will confess to Vraith's second scenario. There were definitely people I met at Elohimfest for whom knowing them in person has really enhanced my appreciation of them. Way cooler than I had thought!

(not looking forward to the queue of people lining up to confess to Vraith's first scenario -- with me as the example in mind...)

I don't disagree. I'd personally just like to stay LF to everyone here and not ruin my image when people see how nice and quiet I am in person. :P

I'd like to think not, having written a novel and majored in English. It was a bit of an in-joke, anyway. I was less talkative then. One can be reserved and still talk on the phone, you know. Moreover, my speech pattern was a bit dulled due to a very specific thing that was occurring to me.

Savor Dam wrote:No, Menolly, Sarge nailed the list. My only quibble would be to note that in terms of Watch identites Phyllis is Hildegard na-Mhoram and Scott Brick is Audio Covenant. Oh, and Waddley now goes by Gaga instead of Hasselhoff.
Not going to change Wadds, and I listed Scott Brick as Audio Covenant when I used sarge's list.
Savor Dam wrote:For my own list, I can only claim three others:

gah!
How on earth could I forget ezio after all the discussion you and I had regarding him???
edited to add him.
Vraith wrote:I'm amazed: some of you have met 45 watchers? [not counting Lorin which apparently no one does!
My list is back on page one, but lorin is listed back at number 32 out of 46.
Vraith wrote:But...for some reason it made me wonder...and I don't expect anyone to post/fess up publicly, in fact really hope no one does...if peeps met other peeps, and REALLY thought "What a D(*K....I HATE him/her." " I can't BELIEVE I thought [from posts] s/he was smart/funny/cool/interesting"
Not on my part, but apparently this is an impression some Watchers have of me. Yeah, it hurt to learn of it at first, but to each their own...
Vraith wrote:And the opposite, too [which might be funny/non-threatening/inoffensive to admit] "S/he posted like a bore/idiot/snob/freakazoid, but so cool/(etc) IRL."
Now this I will gladly admit to. I was truly concerned regarding meeting LZ and sarge. But both are awesome people and I would gladly call them both my friend.
Vraith wrote:Semantic aside, LF: talked when you were less loquacious? don't know if you were being ironic/alluding to something I don't know/missed...or you've mistaken what loquacious means....
Well, without looking up "loquacious," I can't say if LF misused it or not, although I highly doubt he did. I do know what he is referring to when he said we talked though, and feel that it is totally his call to share or not here. He already shared about it in the past, which is what prompted me to call him, but I totally understand if he would prefer not to go back and relive that time.

I fell in love with everyone I met, especially Thor. Maybe if we all lived in the same small town or worked at the same location, we may become a clique. I don't see it happening on the board, but what do I know, I'm a naive newbie. Those few days together are special. There was no way to anticipate my feelings upon leaving because I didn't expect to become one of them.
At least we'll always have Albuquerque.

I didn't add SRD. To me, he's sort of the ur-Watcher. 8)

Vraith: Can't think of anyone I met IRL who turned out to be all that different from who they were on the Watch. We really do have an amazing group of people here. :)

Everybody: There is ABSOLUTELY NOTHING EXCLUSIVE about any E-fest. Whoever can make it is welcome. I think it's natural that some Watchers who meet IRL will get to be RL friends, based on geography or more mutual interests than just SRD or whatever. But every time I've hung out with people from this board -- and the groups have included different people at different times -- I have had a blast.

And for the noobs, we have not met only in Albuquerque -- there have been a couple of meetups in New York, one in DC, and numerous mini-fests around the world. If you can't get to Albuquerque but would like to meet Watchers in RL, plan your own E-fest. People will come to you. :)

Menolly remains the only Watcher I have met.

Besides Foamy, who's my daughter and doesn't post here anymore.

Right, I did. He doesn't automatically come to mind cause I've never interacted with him on the forum, as far as I can remember. But I do remember meeting him and having dinner with you and him.

So, you met audio covenant twice, or are there two of him?

I'm kinda surprised you haven't met SRD or Caamora.
