ALZHEIMER'S

Post by Worm of Despite »

ALZHEIMER'S
Song-less, I
Feel alone;
I can’t even find the tune.
Things I felt the other day
Stale into deep maroon.

Every memory dies, anyway,
So what’s to say they’re right?
Can I pick up and go,
Or must I relinquish more light?

I
Can’t tell anyone apart.
I
Can’t tell any sun apart.

Faceless seems this nameless crowd
That was once family,
Congealing songs I wrote myself--
What a travesty.

When I’m gone, they’ll move on, muttering “what a fool.”
Son, you’d not exist this day had father not been cruel.

I
Can’t tell any love apart.
I
Can’t feel throughout my heart.

I don't know how you do it. Very moving. Great job.
All lies and jest
Still a man hears what he wants to hear
And disregards the rest

My wife works as an art therapist in nursing homes teaching art to people with dementia. I'll show this to her.
Do you think I like being this dangerous?

Thanks! You guys might like this too. When my dad was having heart problems and in the hospital, these words began to form in my head as I was standing in an empty hospital room. I mean, when I die, I don't want to go in a hospital. That place just scares the hell out of me. And this is the best way I can articulate that fear:

I can not die in this white,
Clinical place--
This emotionless face--
This hospital.
The medicine-heavy air drips like death--
Like stillborn breath.
And I’m swallowing by the spoonful
Till I choke . . .
Till I’m broke . . .

Awesome LF :) I wrote alot of stuff like that too, when my brother was so ill. Don't think I'll show them off tho. Really private stuff.

I love your stuff, BTW :) way cool!! :)

WoW! LF, would you take it amiss if I suggested you give up on prose for a bit until you publish some of your poetry? Not that your prose is at all bad, understand, it's just that your poetry is so good! You should work up a compilation and submit it. Really. You blow me away!! :Hail: :Hail: :Hail:

Traitor. ;)

Nah, good stuff, man. You definately need to show this to people.
"It is not the literal past that rules us, save, possibly, in a biological sense. It is images of the past. Each new historical era mirrors itself in the picture and active mythology of its past or of a past borrowed from other cultures. It tests its sense of identity, of regress or new achievement against that past.”
