HD camcorders

Post by Zarathustra »

Anyone shopping for one of these? They still seem to be on the high side of the $500 mark. I usually don't start getting interested until electronics dip down below that. Just wondering if anyone has a high def camcorder, how you feel about it, etc.

My old Hi8 has got to go! It looked bad enough on my old CRT. Now, with the Plamsa . . . yuck. I wish I'd never captured all those precious videos with such an ancient piece of crap.

tell me about it, there must be something that will let you remaster those tapes using a computer..I had a Hi8 and upgraded to a Digital 8 sony...it allows hi 8 tapes to be played from it and the video quality was better than Hi8 but not HD still, then a couple months ago I purchased a Sony HD11 camcorder... it said it was mac compatible but unfortunately the mac i had was too slow to use the software required to decrypt the HD format.... its in some format that compresses the HD video that would normally be something like 20+ gigs down to 4.5 gigs for an hour long movie. the New Imac should solve that problem for me though with Imovie 9 or Final cut pro 6...really clear video on my HD LCD using component outputs, and the still cam on it takes 10.2 mp photos and has a 60gb HD... really nice but a bit expensive... it ran me $1100 but that was my wifes decision... I thought it was too much $$$ but still a great cam.
