But the first Chronicles stood on their own. The Breaking of the Vow was due to the Haruchai necessity for absolutes.So this throws a different light, not a new light, if you see what I mean. The backstory has been changed.
I disagree. The Haruchai desire for absolutes is still with us. That hasn't changed. The earlier explanation gives us a very general description of why the Vow was sworn. The newer explanation puts it in a very specific historical context in the Haruchai backstory. The explanations are not contradictory, rather they are complementary. As absolutist as they are the Haruchai could not accept defeat, and their vow was an absolute answer to the fact of it.
