Subforums!!!

Post by danlo »

I think we're going to go ahead and create them-but how should this format look and what order should they be in?

>Last Chrons
>2nd Chrons
>1st Chrons ?

Do we need a general forum for general discussion with the chapter listings/links or just a stuck thread in each forum with chapter listings/links?
All ideas are welcome.

For simple organization,,i suggest the dividing of the chrons disssects into their appropriate groupings as indicated. The order of each subform in relationship to the others really doesn't matter because we are talking about the movement of ones mouse. Sure the most current first makes sense but so does chronological order. Spherical would be cool. Like the 1st chrons be the interior and the 2nd chrons be the larger sphere encompassing the 1st and the Last Chrons be the most expansive encompassing the other two. hhhmmm...that will keep you busy for awhile.

I just knew someone like you would come along! :P 10 subforums! That's a bit much-let's start with 3 and take it from there.

I just moved one topic as a test and it looks like you're safe. The links still work.

Just need to move them all to the right forum.

I like the idea of a subforum for each book, since each book has enough chapters for dozens of threads (which can get confusing switching from book to book). Why not sub-sub forums, so that we have three main ones, and inside each of those are 3 to 4 forums for the books?

Can I request that every thread in all the Dissecting forums be stickied in chronological order?
I think the reason I stay away from the dissections is that it's just a mess (which I imagine that's why it's being organized now).
Otherwise we're only dividing up a big mess into three messy piles.
I'd love to be able to click the LFB subforum and scoll down to say chapter 8 with ease.

HLT, not a bad idea if there were fewer chapters. But with all the chatpers available, later chapters will be forever stuck the second or third page, even if they are being currently discussed, while earlier chapters can go years between posts and remain on the front page.

Edit: on second thought, it looks like a single page can hold more than 50 threads. Anyone know offhand the most chapters any particular book has?

There's a sticky thread with a list of chapter links in chapter order. It's one whole additional click, dude. Should be sufficient for anyone.

(Praise to the keepers of the chapter link topics!)

A few notes:

1) I don't think it's possible to have sub-sub-forums.
2) I don't think it's possible to order how threads are stickied.
3) For lazy bums like HLT, there ALREADY is an in-order listing of all of the threads:

I'm going to try to set up the order of the books, with dlb's help, going from 1st book to last in each set of Chronicles--where they end up after that is up to our users. I think 10 subforums are absurd-yes use the directory. Until everything is set up please don't make random comments in there or the mods will delete you (unless, of course, you're actively contributing to a specific chapter). I think we're going to leave shadow topics until they're all in there and look good.

Is there a problem with the goodpost button in the subforum threads?

It's not set up yet, but we're not forgetting your request-I've PMed Vain who should be able to get that function up, along with his dissection, this weekend. 8)
