Eyes wide open as she just begins to take in the hustle and bustle of the capital, Irian grasps on to Vargon's forearm and mutely awaits the guards reply. The village her father's shop was in was nothing like this, and it was easily twice the size of Tethil. Oh, how she looked forward to perusing the markets!

...in her spare time outside of finding a cure for Xavier...

"Guild of Physicians and Apothecaries? That's on the Main Street.

You a member then, sir? You look the type!"

"Ah, no, good sir. Though I practice the healing arts, I be dedicated to Holy Pelor. We do wish to consult with the Guild however... my pardon, but this be my first visit to Scragnoth. The Main street, you say?" He points, "This be the Main street?"

He points to the distance through the gate, "Follow this road and you'll find it. You'll know it when you see it."

He waves you all through the gate while the other guard looks on, seemingly half asleep and barely grasping the handle of his weapon.

While you're chatting to the guards several carts, one full of chicken in cages, a couple carrying huge bales of hay, another containing coal, exit through this gate but nothing seems to be going inwards.

Charn thanks the guards with another quick blessing, and starts off in the direction of the Guild of Physicians & Apothecaries. Though he maintains a mostly dignified manner, Charn is clearly impressed and cannot help but gawk a little at the magnitude of Scragnoth.
[ooc]Unless anyone stops him for some other reason - like to wonder aloud about the lack of inbound trade - shall we continue on toward the Guild?[/ooc]

Nodding his thanks to the Cleric for getting directions, the rogue gestures for him to lead the way to the Guild, eager to put his questions to them.

You walk onwards in the direction the guard had indicated. You seem to be in quite a poor district. There are people going about their mundane daily activities, hanging out their washing, buying food, etc. and the whole area has the hustle and bustle of a very busy town.

You continue down the way and it changes from a dirt track into a smoothly paved road, you can tell, even with your inexperienced eyes, that this road is very well laid and maintained. The joins between the paving stones are so smooth that there doesn't even seem to be room for weeds to grow between them, and if they did grow, you suspect they'd be pulled immediately.

The further you progress, the more the air of general wealth and opulence increases until, eventually you come to a huge road running perpendicular to the one you're traveling on. It's about three times as wide as the rest and is lined on either side by magnificent buildings the likes of which you've never seen before in your life. The architecture is breathtaking. There are arches, columns, spires, towers, you name it they've got it, and they must have used several quarries' worth of marble in their construction.

The guard said you'd know it when you came to it, and this must be the road you're looking for.

The road is thick with horses, carts, carriages and various other vehicles, and many people are walking this way and that. You see some uniformed men wandering around with longswords at their belts whom you assume are the city guard, and you also see armed guards stationed in front of most of the large buildings.

Quite a way down the road to the left you can see a crowded market square with hundreds of stalls set out, carrying out a bustling trade.

Looking interestedly up and down the street, Xavier crossed to the nearest guard, and asked him politely for directions to the apothecaries guild.

The guard tells you that it's the rather fine building with the emblem of a snake wrapped round a copper pole.

Thanking the guard, the rogue headed toward the indicated building, intending to ask the guards for admittance.

You head towards the indicated building. As you get closer you see that foot traffic entering and exiting the main entrance seems to be unrestricted. People with various injuries, illnesses and afflictions are making their way through the front door and the guards don't take any notice of them.

You surmise that you don't need to ask for permission to enter and you all wander inside.

The change from the bright sunlight outside take a few seconds to get used to, and once your eyes adjust you find yourselves in a large entrance hall with marble columns evenly spaced on either side of the walkway. There are tapestries hung from the walls and Brother Charn recognises many of them as depicting images of Pelor, god of Healing.

You walk on through the entrance hall and come to a desk with a clerk sitting behind it. There's a sign above his head saying "RECEPTION".

"Can I help you?", she says.

Watching the amazing architecture of the city buildings, Vargon follows his friends in the streets.
He seems to be impressed by the magnificence of the palaces and the buildings of the city.
Now that he's in the apothecaries guild he's waiting for his friend to ask for information, curiously looking around to see if anything should catch his interest

Overwhelmed by the sheer immenseness of it all, Irian clung even tighter to her body guard's forearm and trailed along wherever he went. Thinking of the bandit's crossbow and bolts she still carried, she glanced towards the market with yearning in her eyes. She desperately needed new clothes, and perhaps some other supplies as well.

...but Xavier's needs took precedence, and as they entered the healers guild, her own desire to learn more of healing manifested itself, and gladly seeing Vargon's curiosity, followed his gaze with interest as they awaited their own healer to state their purpose.

Charn peels his eyes away from the tapestries to gaze at the reception clerk. "Blessings of Pelor upon you this day. We be here to inquire about a matter of... mild urgency concerning the nature of tiger bites - erm - such as the bites of full-moon shapechanging tigers? We be here at the referral of an apothecary in one of the outlying towns. Do you know of one who can help us?" Charn smiles, absently taps his holy symbol, and looks hopefully at the clerk.

The rogue, thankful for a change that the big cleric had taken matters in hand, listened attentively for the answer.

"You say you were sent by an apothecary in a small town?

You'll be wanting to speak to Joseph the Scholar, he's our archivist and something of an expert on this kind of thing, but he hates to be disturbed and I doubt he'll want to speak to you.

I can send someone to ask him if he's got any time to speak with you, but don't get your hopes up, he's been known to disappear into the archives and not emerge for weeks."

"Thanks be to you for making the attempt. If there be any way to impart urgency in the matter..." Charn <very unrehearsedly> places 3 silver pieces on the desk, "We be most grateful. We have witnessed dire consequences from an unaddressed tiger-bite. It be a matter of safety."

the clerk presses a bell on his desk three times, and in a few moments a man comes rushing out from a door behind and to the left of him.

The clerk explains your problem to him, mentioning the tiger bite and that it's urgent, and the man hurries off again through the door.

"In the meantime, fellows, is there anything else I can do for you? Joseph is not really a hands-on type of person, he's a research specialist and hasn't seen the inside of a treatment room for many years. He's our only lycanthropy specialist but if you have any other complaints I can arrange an appointment with someone more able."

Irian's eyebrows shot up at the good cleric's attempt at a bribe. She would have asked if there were any learned assistants to him that they could speak with, in the event this archivist refused to see them. In her father's shop, you always began with underlings, and then once the urgency of the matter was known, work your way through the upper levels until you reached someone with the knowledge to assist you. Very rarely did that involve speaking to the most experienced person there.

But...she knew very little about healing, although her desire to learn intensified as she watched the proceedings...

The rushed man returns and tells you that Joseph is free to see you right away.

The clerk, who just at that moment happens to be taking a swig of his coffee, spits it out in surprise.

"Well I never! That's a miracle for sure! Quick, go before he changes his mind!"

Leaving the clerk mopping the coffee off his desk, you follow the hurrying clerk through the door and down a corridor. You pass a few doors on your left and right, most of the are closed, but where one is open, you see a clean, tidy room with a bed and, what seems to be a desk on wheels with various implements on it.

At the end of the corridor you go through another door and find yourselves in a large oak-panelled room with several doors in each wall. The man takes you to the one directly ahead and leads you through.

The man grabs a lamp from a hook on the wall and after descending a short flight of stairs, you find yourselves in a dimly lit room, you can't see how big it is because it's large enough to extend beyond the range of the lamp. You're surrounded by rows upon rows of bookcases.

Before you entered this room you though the guildhouse was peaceful and quiet, you now realise you were wrong. In here, among the books, scrolls and tomes you find that the silence is overwhelming. It seems as though the accumulated texts must somehow absorb any sound, but that cannot be the case because your footsteps are almost deafening, and you find that you're deliberately treading carefully to minimise the sound.

Suddenly a man wearing black robes appears from the gloom and says, in a deep booming voice,

"I am Joseph the Scholar, welcome to the archives. What can I do for you?"
