I can't pick one...to me it's all one long story :) Tolkien originally wrote it as one big book. It was the publishers who eventually broke it down.

You should add "all of the above" to that poll..hehehe :)
And I believe in you
altho you never asked me too
I will remember you
and what life put you thru.

Fellowship

because...

Tom Bombadil

The Council of Elrond
Which includes the fantastic poem:

All that is gold does not glitter
Not all those who wander are lost
The old that is strong does not wither
Deep roots are not reached by the frost

From the ashes, a fire shall be woken
A light from the shadows shall spring
Renewed shall be blade that was broken
The crownless again shall be king

Khazad-dum
Which includes such lines as:
"And now what about you, Frodo? There was no time to say so, but I have never been more delighted in my life than when you spoke."
"Fool of a Took! This is a serious journey, not a hobbit walking-party. Throw yourself in next time, and then you will be no further nuisance. Now be quiet!"
And Gandalf vs the Balrog!!!!!

Lothlorien
Which includes the incredible quote:
"I pass the test. I will diminish, and go into the West, and remain Galadriel."

And I'm stopping now so I can get to other posts. I could spend a week on this one post! :)
All lies and jest
Still a man hears what he wants to hear
And disregards the rest

Khazad Dum, Mines of Moria. Where Gandalf fights the Balrog. It was the Bridge of Khazad Dum that collapses and Gandalf falls.

Really? I know that's how Jacko did it ... but I thought the Fellowship ended at Rivendell.

OH no no no...From Rivendell they go to Moria, then from Moria to Lothlorien, then down the River thru the Argonath...Fellowship ends when Boromir tries to take the Ring from Frodo, and Frodo and Sam leave for Mordor alone.
And I believe in you
altho you never asked me too
I will remember you
and what life put you thru.

Yep, the books ends with Frodo and Sam going across the river.
So Frodo and Sam set off on the last stage of the Quest together. Frodo paddled away from the shore, and the River bore them swifly away, down the western arm, and past the frowning cliffs of Tol Brandir. The roar of the great falls drew nearer. Even with such help as Sam could give, it was hard work to pass across the current at the southward end of the island and drive the boat eastward towards the far shore.

At length they came to land again upon the southern slopes of Amon Lhaw. There they found a shelving shore, and they drew the boat out, high above the water, and hid it as well as they could behind a great boulder. Then shouldering their burdens, they set off, seeking a path that would bring them over the grey hills of the Emyn Muil, and down into the Land of Shadow.

Here ends the first part of the history of the War of the Ring.

The second part is called
The Two Towers, since the events recounted in it are dominated by Orthanc, the citidel of Saruman, and the fortress of Minas Morgul that guards the secret entrance to Mordor; it tells of the deeds and perils of all the members of the now sundered fellowship, until the coming of the Great Darkness.

The third part tells of the last defence against the Shadow, and the end of the mission of the Ring-bearer in
The Return of the King.
And I believe in you
altho you never asked me too
I will remember you
and what life put you thru.

I agree that you can't just choose one. Tolkien wrote it as one big book and intended for it to be read that way.

But if I had to choose...I'd pick TTT. 8)
