heh.

when i read it i didn't even realize that was icarium.
but...i'm confused a bit. aren't some of those names of those
voices he was talkin to himself as... those are other characters.
taxillan? rautos? don't we know some of those guys?
i don't get it.

heboric i'm not surprised about tho. i was suspicious when he
went down so quick in the ambush and not another word about
him other than the other characters talkin about him. was he the
only one of the ambushed that didn't get revived in one way or
another? who all was in that grp? cutter, scillara, felisin, the frog
demon (whose name i can never remember but whose dialogue
i loved) heboric, and who else? i forget.

also not surprised about the k'chain that were with redmask.
i figured they'd had their own reasons for killing him and we'd
hear about it later.

thanks for linking wadds! i hadn't been to the malazan board to check
in a while! :D

The running theory is those are people who were vaporised by his machine.

I thought Rautos Hivenar was the servant of the guy who dug up parts of Icarium's machine in Letheras. (That *was* in Letheras, wasn't it?) And didn't Taxillian work for the guys who ran things in the town that bordered the Awldans' desert? Or am I thinking of somebody else?

Interesting reason for the K'Chain Che'Malle to have teamed up with Redmask -- but yeah, not surprising, I guess.

Wow, Heboric. And Icarium. Wow.

yeah he was. rautos i mean. creepy guy right? taxillian was on the ship with samar dev and karsa. member? she just called him the taxillian cause thats where he was from (or what he was), she never knew his name.
so yeah i went and read the whole thread the other night over at the malazan board. some interesting speculations about DoD.

redmask experiment. cool huh. everybody at the malazan board is sorta knocked out about the kccm guys and the matron. someone was speculating that the matron and CG were gonna team up since they're both insane, or...worse...the matron and icarium, since he TOO is insane!! 8O

all in all i think DoD looks exceedingly interesting!!

Taxillian was a translator. I don't think he had a grinning mask.

But, as I said above, it's pretty much certain that these seven are the ones in Letheras who were vapourised by the beams from Icarium's machine - the machine, brokenly, ripped their memories from them instead of restoring Icarium's own memories. Icarium's mind has been flooded with the lives of these people and it's overwhelmed his consciousness, I think. He's only vaguely aware of his past self (the early comment about constantly having companions and drifting from one to another, and how he would cease to exist if they were ever to leave him (which we can easily understand him thinking, in his current state, because he has never had any memory of the time before the Nameless Ones started giving him companions to control him)).

Bah. I'll have to go back to...whichever book it was...and figure out who Taxillian was.

yeah ali the guy you're thinking of was a segulah i think. in the compound once the ship got to letheras.
murrin's right, taxillian was the translator on board the ship that picked up karsa and samar dev and took em to letheras. member he wasn't translating exactly what karsa was saying or something. samar called him on his translations for something or other. thats how they started talkING

Amazon.uk notified me over the weekend that they'll be shipping out my copy of DoD on Wednesday. I amended the order to add Night of Knives, as the UK paperback edition is now (relatively) cheap. I foresee a serious Malazan reading binge in my future!

Yes'm, if you don't mind that they charge you in pounds sterling, you can absolutely order from Amazon.co.uk. I have done it successfully for the last several Malazan books.

And speaking of...I just got an e-mail from these guys -- they shipped my book *today*. Of course airmail from their dispatch center in Germany takes, like, two weeks, but I'll still get it sooner than if I waited for the US release.
