The Raver of course would know what name Foul used. And the raver became the head of the Clave, and the Clave is what distorted history. So, I'm starting to doubt that they just pulled the name "Jeroth" out of a hat. I don't think SRD would either. :)
I would love to see this theory proved correct, as it is quite logical. But I just don't think the information is there, in TCTC. (imo)

I've always been pretty sure that the only reason that he is called Lord Foul in the chrons is because that was the name he took when he infiltrated the council. I assumed that the despiser was never called Lord Foul until after Foul's Betrayal.

Would he really go around calling himself Lord Foul? I very much doubt it. I don't have any evidence, it's just that it doesn't seem right.

"Hi Kevin! I'm Foul and I would like to be a lord in your council".

And if his first name is Foul what is his last name then? :P

But I agree that the despiser couldn't have been called Lord Foul until after the betrayal. No one could know that Lord Foul (or Lord Dave or whatever his name was) actually was the despiser.

If this was a poll I would vote for Lord Jeroth. Jeroth would be his taken name, it's suitable especially because of a-Jeroth in the second chrons.

But does he have a real name? And in that case, does the creator have a real name too? I don't know. :?

I always thought that they named him "Lord Foul" after the betrayal just because he was a Lord and, well...foul. They probably debated for a long time what to call him...

"Lord Sinister?"
"no..."
"Lord Evil?"
"don't like it..."
"Lord Meanie?"
"not strong enough"
"Lord Diabolical?"
"too melodramatic..."
"Lord Foul?"
"Bingo!"

Just picture it: Lord Meanie's Bane... With Drool as his faithful side-kick.

Remember when Covenant asks for his name? "I have had many names, it said. To the Lords of Revelstone, I am Lord Meanie the Despiser." Oh, that's scary... :haha:

I'm guessing Foul went by a high sounding respectful name. Lord Aquilian. Lord Trothladine. Lord Sornadrill. Something that would engender trust and acceptance instead of breeding suspicion like Lord Imgonnagetcha, Lord Watchyourbackkevin, Lord Youguysaredoomed. Stuff like that.

Murrin: on my same thread where I proposed Jeroth, I also noted that the Chrons clearly say the Lord Foul is a term the Council of Lords used meaning: Enemy of the Land, which indicates that he had a different name as a serving Lord of Kevin.

First name: Lord
Surname: Foul

That would of course make him Lord Lord if he ever became one. :?

Given that no other formal name beyond that of an openly derogatory nature has been offered within the text of the Chrons. I have to concede Jeroth is the only example that can be applied from the context of the story. Perhaps the 3rd Chrons. will shed some light on the matter. I have enjoyed reading the speculation.

It's a typo. He was originally Lord Oluf. Over the years, it just became accepted practice to call him Lord Foul. Kind of like how we call it the Red Sea.
"It is not the literal past that rules us, save, possibly, in a biological sense. It is images of the past. Each new historical era mirrors itself in the picture and active mythology of its past or of a past borrowed from other cultures. It tests its sense of identity, of regress or new achievement against that past.”
