I, too, think the First should be much bulkier and less gracile. I think she needs long braided hair too (like 'spun iron', as she is described as having by SRD).
I'd like to choke him for the way he portrayed Foamfollower on that cover.
Mr. Sweets depiction of Giants (and anything else) leaves much to be desired.Percipience wrote:See the green picture of Foamfollower on the cover of The Power That Preserves.

First off, the avatar is kickin'. It is kind of the way I pictured Foul if he were to have a human form. I think I read something about "leonine hair" or something, but other than that, the eyes and expression and perfect facial symmetry hit it on the head. As far as the First, she is my avatar, and my favorite character of the entire series (so far). It's only my opinion, but I picture more of a Zena-esque attire, but not quite as revealing. There is not, I don't think, any mention of the length of her hair, but "iron beauty" is mentioned more than once, so I think she has a dark grayish-black hair color; however, that may have been referring to her strength and have nothing to do with her physical appearance. I see it long with one thick braid down the back, so as to not hinder her when fighting. Your picture is pretty practical; she's covered really well to protect herself from battle. I'd give her more of a bodybuilder look. You've seen woman bodybuilders; go that distance, then pull it back just a bit shy of veins popping out. That is so gross. Ever see Red Sonja? That, but without the red mohawk.
Heard my ears aright? Did not the gaddhi grant me this glaive?

I also always imagined Giants, both male and female, to look a little...."bulky" in the face, not slender and fair like what you came up with but more.....i can't really explain it.
I never pictured the First as being attractive in a human way.
Not ugly or misshapen but also not going to win any human beauty contests.
To me they weren't just big humans, they always had a different look to them.
It's tough to describe.

I always thought of the First as Echidna from Fire Emblem 6
Linden should have quailed. His certainty was as bitter as the touch of a Raver: it should have defeated her. But it did not. How often had she heard Lord Foul or his servants prophesy destruction, attempting to impose despair? And how often had Thomas Covenant shown her that it was possible to stand upright under the weight of utter hopelessness?

I always pictured Foamfollower looking kind of like the BFG (but half the age and certainly with features in more...human proportion) from Ronald Dhal's children's story.
Always tall enough to appear lean, but also blocky and hard-chiseled (not necessarily musculature, but rather features). The females I see being a kind of more graceful form of that.
But a noble effort was made; I certainly can't do anything like that.

Agreed, Black Asgard. I'd feel more confident offering constructive criticism if I had any idea at all how Hue Of Bone produces such art. Seriously, I can't even draw, lol.
However, I have always pictured the First like unto a Valkyrie.

She was starkly beautiful, with hair like fine-spun iron, and stern purpose on her visage....she was fully caparisoned as a warrior. She wore a corselet and leggings of mail, with greaves on her arms; a helm hung from her belt, a round iron shield from her shoulders. In a scabbard at her side, she bore a broadsword nearly as tall as Covenant. (S. Donaldson, The Wounded Land, p.442, 1980)
Stone and Sea are deep in life,
two unalterable symbols of the world;
permanence at rest, and permanence in motion;
participants in the Power that remains.

I think metal is a precious item in the land. The Giants tend to use stone like we use metals. So the chainmail
could be changed along the line of Plate mail but made of stone.
Maybe I'll check the TWL book for a description.
the description I got was that her armor and breastplates were made of interlocking discs of stone to allow movement while still providing protection.
are you using Poser to create your characters?

hmmm... it actually mentions Honninscrave wearing the armor of small interlocking discs..
The Wounded Land - "The old tellers spoke truly," Brinn said. "I am gladdened." The Giant folded his thick arms over his chest, which was as deep and solid as the trunk of an oak. He wore a sark of mail, formed of interlocking granite discs, and heavy leather leggings. Across his back, he bore a huge bundle of supplies. He had a beard like a fist. His eyes shone warily from under massive brows. The blunt distrust of his stance showed that he and Brinn had exchanged blows-and that he did not share Brinn's gladness.
The Wounded Land - "The first to reach his side was a woman. She was starkly beautiful, with hair like fine-spun iron, and stern purpose on her visage. Though she was slimmer than he, and slightly shorter, she was fully caparisoned as a warrior. She wore a corselet and leggings of mail, with greaves on her arms; a helm hung from her belt, a round iron shield from her shoulders. In a scabbard at her side, she bore a broadsword nearly as tall as Covenant."
Im sure theres probably a couple more descriptions in TOT or WGW also...

I always do a search in the dictionary for SRD words. The only reference I got for sark is that it was a Scottish term for a shirt. However, from the description SRD gives about Honninscrave's garment I came to the conclusion that SRD was referring to ring armour
