Rogue Trader - Useful Links
This is an informal compilation of links which people may find useful for the setting.
From the Fantasy Flight Games website, I have linked this Random Name Generator for the 40k setting. Not that I am suggesting players should have to use it, though it gives people an idea of the nomenclature of the Imperium:

Other players should feel free to link more sites if they like.

These are articles from old White Dwarf magazines about Battlefleet Gothic (a space ship combat simulator in the 40k setting). There is a lot of general information on space travel and the Imperial Navy which may be of some background interest to some players. Also, some of the text in these articles appears verbatim in the Rogue Trader rules:

So, Rogue Trader, as it turns out, happens at about the same time as the Dark Heresy game, the books for which were re-released just recently. I tracked down the web-only release (i.e. - Free for download, no copywrite enforced) for the vehicle rules, Dark Heresy - Apocrypha.

Looks like a good resource for Rogue Trader and Dark Heresy (mostly Dark Heresy, as it is older), with alot of "extra" fan-made fluff and stats for different characters/creatures in the WH40k RPG universe. It also has an editable .pdf character sheet for Rogue Trader. Huzzah.

Thanks to Dorian for the link, here's a fan-made size comparison chart between Imperial vessels. This is really good for understanding proportions, however, it must be noted that the artist has gotten his measurements wrong. All of these vessels should be slightly longer (a frigate is about 1.6-1.8 kms). Though it is correct to assume that an average frigate is the length of a battleship's prow gun.

^The frigate is also listed as a Dauntless class, which is doubled for the cruiser. The cruiser is correctly named.

A rather stat heavy tactical comparison of Imperial vessels from the Battlefleet Gothic (and therefore Rogue Trader) rules. The Firestorm class frigate (of which the Invictus Aeterna is a member) receives a scathing review from the gamer on page 3 (escorts).

I haven't yet played Battlefleet Gothic, so I don't know how the Firestorm really fares. In my experience of well-designed wargames, it's more a question of how you use something, not what its stats are.
I chose the Firestorm class for the Invictus because I believe the ability to field a lance armament clearly makes it the best frigate - lances ignore all armour if they hit (you just have to get the shields down first). Provided you time the macro-batteries to overload the enemy shields first, then hit them with a blast from the lance, you'll be murdering enemy crewmen in the hundreds. An extra macro battery is just not as good as having the lance. And, quite frankly, the Firestorm just looks great.

Lances are indeed death incarnate. Haha I thought that might elicit that response. Like Han Solo defending the Millennium Falcon.

Oh damn. He put the Grand Moff Tarkin picture up, and now he's going all Death Star on us.Montresor wrote:I chose the Firestorm class for the Invictus because I believe the ability to field a lance armament clearly makes it the best frigate
Don't encourage the descent into Star Wars...Stone Magnet wrote:Lances are indeed death incarnate. Haha I thought that might elicit that response. Like Han Solo defending the Millennium Falcon.

Anyway, the line is "She many not look like much, but she's got it where it counts." The ".5 past lightspeed" is earlier.
Okay, fine... don't get ME started on Star Wars. It's like having a song stuck in your head, only... it's like 6hours long for me.
GGgggggnnnnnnaaaaaahhhhhhhh! Make the voices stop, mommy!
Which only really means "Don't miss that first shot." Good thing we got us an awesome Gunnery Officer.Montresor wrote:Although she has lost about a quarter of her manuevrability since her fleet days...

Then, I'd have to scroll up to find the GM's off-topic post:Montresor wrote:And if the GM can combine deletion of off-topic posts?
