Is the Orcrest a portal to another dimension?

Post by aTOMiC »

Given that the orcrest appears to be translucent but does not allow objects to bee seen through it, could it be a portal to another dimension or perhaps a conduit to nothingness? Or is it a bane of earthpower that does not perceive the ordinary world similar to Glimmermere?

Thoughts.

I always thought of it as a piece of rock that has an extraordinary amount of earthpower in it. Perhaps it can mind-meld with other pieces of Orcrest; I wouldn't know because I do not have rocks in my head. :screwy:

Hmmm... Did the Orcrest get its mindmelding power from the Haruchai?

I am absolutely certain that they did.

Well as certain as I can be with no proof, circumstantial evidence, or any reason to think it's true at all :D

Proof? What more proof do you need than that Linden was unable to decypher the Orcrest language?

You took the words right out of my thoughts. If the One Tree is sprouting out of the top of the Worm's head like an ingrown hair, where do you think the One stone is sticking out of?

cf,
Maybe we'll hear yet another creation story, and the One Stone will end up in it somewhere.

altho you never asked me too
I will remember you

Okay, I found it.. In the Illearth War when Tohrm gives Covenant the Orcrest...
"It is orcrest, a rare piece of the One Rock which is the heart of the Earth. The Earthpower is abundant in it, and it may serve you in many ways. Will you accept it?"

Covenant stared at the orcrest as if there were something cruel in Tohrm's offer. "I don't want it."

"I do not offer it for any want," said Tohrm. "You have the white gold, and need no gifts of mine. No, I offer it out of respect for my old friend Birinair, whom you released from the fire which consumed him. I offer it in gratitude for a brave deed."
Sheesh, how could I have forgotten something like that?? :?

The One Rock was the original colonists' teleportation device; so was the One Tree. They intergrated their technology with plants, and they also used stones and water.
Why do I always have to be the decoy?

So does translucent mean the same as transparent?

translucent

\Trans*lu"cent\, a. [L. translucens, -entis, p. pr. of translucere to shine through; trans across, through = lucere to shine. See Lucid.] 1. Transmitting rays of light without permitting objects to be distinctly seen; partially transparent.

transparent

\Trans*par"ent\, a. [F., from LL. transparens, -entis, p. pr. of transparere to be transparent; L. trans across, through + parere to appear. See Appear.] 1. Having the property of transmitting rays of light, so that bodies can be distinctly seen through; pervious to light; diaphanous; pellucid; as, transparent glass; a transparent diamond; -- opposed to opaque. ``Transparent elemental air.'' --Milton.
