Maybe not half as exiting for Americans as for me ... the new season is strating this weekend and with the return of Michael Schumacher, a few new teams and way more cars on the grid it looks like it's going to be an exciting season.

Just couldn't resist, sorry, what can I say? I'm really fed up at work!

Usually grab most of the races and qualifying but not an anorak on it. Not read much on this years, based on last years I'll go with Vettel and Red Bull to go one better but more looking forward to seeing Schumacher race again although I think it could well be a decision he lives to regret.

One of the things I did hear was that some of the cars are about 6 seconds off the pace!! That's one hell of a deficit to be dealing with if it is true.

I haven't followed Formula One for years - Michael Schumacher is the only name I know on the list!

But is Bruno Senna related to Ayrton Senna?

Interesting to see the Montreal Grand Prix still there. I had the impression it was in all kinds of financial trouble.

Someone always seems to screw the pooch when it comes to a F1 US Grand Prix. That bit with the tires a few years ago, and F1 being ticked off at the Speedway about a perceived lack of marketing effort. If it were to come back to Indy, I would like to go down and see it. I hear though that they are having trouble finding a sponsor for it to come back - good luck with the Detroit companies on that one. ;)

Like NASCAR or Indy racing, I'll casually watch F1 if I find it on the tube. Though I can't say I know a lot of the names.

I've got no choice, I have to watch as the gf is an F1 nut & being obsessed with Schumacher, this year she'll be over the moon.

Nothing will get her away from the TV when it's on.

Me, I suspect Red Bull to come out on top this year.

Bruno is Ayrton's nephew.

I have never been a Schumacher or Ferrari fan. It's always been McLaren and their drivers (especially the Finnish) for for me.

My goodness - what a hopelessly boring "race". Refueling is banned this year so the cars start extremely heavy which makes it look like truck racing. It was not even racing, it was like watching a friggin' procession. It says a lot when the old thing that brought some kind of excitement was a broken exhaust.

Why is refueling banned? An attempt to level the playing field?

Fueling startegies took the action from the track into the pits - depending on how much you refueld during a pitstop (/and how many fueling pitstops you made) you could "overtake" your apponents in the pits - something which doesn't look spectacular on TV (=less money for ads). So they decided to ban refueling (and changing tires should take sthe same amount of time for all times - 4 seconds was the record today but they think to get as fast as 3 seconds for changing all tires during the season).

Problem is the cars are very heavy now at the beginning of the race. Together with narrower front wheels this means a lot of understeering (you steer into a corner but the car keeps going straight - some drivers said it feels like driving a bus). So the cars are rather slow in the beginning. They also have to brake earlier which reduces corner speed. Later on in the race when they already have consumed some fule they get lighter, however the tires suffer wear so again this slows them down. I am not happy with this development.

Refuel ban has also to do with cutting costs and forcing the manufacturers to produce "economical" engines (think green ;))
