...not related to the HBO series...but this is so worth checking out.

Apparently back in 2009 this band Arkngthand did a CD called 'Songs of Fire and Ice'.

I am going to post a link to one of their songs, Learning to Fly. I am also going to post the lyrics. Listen to the song and follow the lyrics. All that I sampled were so pretty good (especially lyrically), but this one (to me) stands above all others.

link :

www.youtube.com/watch?v=lSK2kekXHxA&feature=related

lyrics :

The day of a thousand goodbyes, Roamin’ Winterfel, My wolf at my side.
The way
to Southern paradise, I’ll meet the Kingsguard, a real horse I’ll ride
Leavin’
behind, the Snow and the Grey Wind, Bloodbonds rescind.
One more time, climb
the broken tower, counting the last hours

And then I looked into your
eyes
And saw the green reflection
Of her majesty!
The things you’ll do for
love…

Every flight begins with a fall
Now is it just a dream? Where did I
lose control?

Every flight begins with a fall
Now is it just a dream? Do
I Fly or Die? Come show me my pair of wings
And I’ll kiss these earthly ways
goodbye

The ground closer now, still far away, Far far away. The crow said
do not cry, just Fly! I cant! Leavin’ behind, the bird and it’s black skin,
darker as sin.
One last look at the broken tower, is this my final
hour?

When I looked into your eyes
I saw the three reflections
Of the gift
in me
And found my way above

Every flight begins with a fall
Now is it
just a dream? Where did I lose control?

Every flight begins with a
fall
Now is it just a dream? Do I Fly or Die? Come show me my pair of wings

And I’ll kiss these earthly ways goodbye

Then I looked into my eyes
And
saw my own reflections
Suddenly it’s clear to me
The things you’ll do for
love…

Every flight begins with a fall
Now is it just a dream? Where did I
lose control?

Every flight begins with a fall
Now is it just a dream?
Do I Fly or Die? Come show me my pair of wings
And I’ll kiss these earthly
ways goodbye

*checks out Spotify* Appears the whole album's squatting there; I'll have a go at it when I get a free moment. Thanks for posting. :)

Incidentally, Blind Guardian's "At the Edge of Time" released last year contains a few songs entwining with the ASOIAF theme. Here's one, sung from the POV of Bran:

Hollywood Reporter
HBO executives stressed their commitment to making Game of Thrones authentic to George R.R. Martin's books and to keeping the show going as long as Martin keeps writing -- which is a considerable commitment given Martin's prolific nature.

Addressing critics at the semi-annual Television Critics Association press tour, Richard Plepler, co-president of HBO, said Martin is happy with the networks adaptation of his work.

"The truth is when you see how thrilled he is with the production, we know we’ve succeeded partially by his satisfaction," said Plepler. "We told George we’d go as long as he kept writing."
thought that bolded part was kinda funny. heh. but good news nonetheless. you know the nature of the tv game tho, should ratings drop...

OTOH, if the HBO miniseries catch up to him, maybe it'll light a fire under his butt to finish the rest of the books.

If anyone's interested in being an extra in the next series, you need scruffy hair, stubble, and get yourself to Benone

Following off a comment just made by danlo in the other thread, some casting things I saw elsewhere over the last few weeks that I haven't seen mentioned here:

Brienne - Gwendolyn Christie

Stannis - Stephen Dillane
Melisandre - Carice van Houten

Margaery - Natalie Dormer (Renly thought she looked like Lyanna, so I don't think this casting looks right.)

Yara Greyjoy - Gemma Whelan (they changed her name to not sound like Osha)

Davos - Liam Cunningham

Xaro Xhoan Daxos - Nonso Anozie

Jaqhen H'ghar - Tom Wlaschiha

Alton Lannister - Karl Davies (This one is a slight mystery, as the character does not exist. Rumour has it he replaces Cleos Frey in the series.)

Roose Bolton - Michael McElhatton

Craster - Robert Pugh

Dolorous Edd - Ben Crompton

I really like the Stannis/Melisandre combo, still unsure about Davos, Gwendolyn's the right height, but doesn't look powerful enough, at all...I like the Craster and Dolorous Edd actors...not really liking Bolton...

Casting related article, with many repeats but a couple new ones:

Note the pic at the top of Margaery with dark hair - the other pics of the actress were all blonde.

I watched the first 4 episodes last Sunday; I really like this so far. It's kind of a shame it's so adult; my kids would think it's the coolest thing ever if I could let them watch it.
