I've always been partial to wombats. That little guy is cute, but it's obvious that someone just shrank a bear.

Australian funnel-web spider

These spiders have fangs which point straight down the body and do not point towards each other (cf Araneomorphae). They have ample venom glands that lie entirely within their chelicerae. Their fangs are large and powerful, capable of penetrating fingernails and soft shoes.

The Sydney funnel-web is the worst apparently. And they hide in your boots if you leave them outside...

They're definitely not cute

Nope. I don't wear soft shoes, but still nope. Much nope.

I'm allergic to spider bites even if the spider isn't venomous. Fine with small spiders that mind their own business - there's a little one that has a web outside my door - landlord was sweeping out there the other day and I asked him to watch out for Bob. He's a Buddhist (the landlord, not the spider - though maybe the spider too, who knows), so he's okay with it.

Oz has the largest endemic population of fauna in the world! (meaning most of the wildlife there is unique to Oz)

also it has more venomous than non venomous species of snakes!! AND it has more marsupial than placental mammals! AND...furthermore...

it is the only continent other than Antarctica to NOT have native hoofed animals, or native terrestrial Carnivora (dogs, bears, cats, weasels etc., but they do have seals and sea lions) - the dingo appears to have arrived from South-east Asia only about 4,000 years ago, probably with Indonesian traders.

it's a wonderland!!! :D

But it's a marsupial.

Is that the one where you put a marsupial in a box and ring a bell and it's either a cartoon or it isn't? I've never been very good at philosophy.

You put a cat in a box and ring a bell, and it's either sleeping or flipping you off.
