What should I buy for my 360?

Post by Cambo »

Finally got a functioning Xbox 360, now I'm confronted with a mountain of potential games to get for it. The ones I'm currently keen on:

Halo: Reach
Assassin's Creed (and sequels)
Batman: Arkham Asylum
Gears of War 2
Ninja Gaiden 2
Mass Effect (and sequels)

Any Xboxers got some suggestions or recommendations (those above or other games?)

Alan Wake. The only regret I have about selling my 360 is giving this one up.

It's up there with Fahrenheit or Deus Ex in terms of story. The gameplay is average, but enjoyable.

Got Halo:Reach today. Sorry Rigel, I saw Alan Wake there but Reach was half price brand new, and I'm a Halo geek.

I'm loving Reach so far. I've heard people say it's a bit same-y if you've played all the other Halo games. I've played all save ODST, and I think Reach is only same-y in very good ways. The developers know very well what their players like by now, and Reach has been great from the word go. just a few levels in (I think three, I haven't been paying attention) and I've hooned around on a Warthog, fought Hunters and had a lengthy sniping session. All the best elements of the previous games are here, but improved upon. The best weapons from all three original games, including the assault rifle, pistol, battle rifle and plasma rifle are here, feeling like they pack more punch than before. The vehicles battles are as intuitive and high adrenaline as ever.

After flicking through the booklet, I'm looking forward to trying out some new weapons and vehicles later, and it even looks like we might get some space battles. :D

Batman Arkham Asylum is my all-time favorite game. The story is outstanding, and game play is very realistic.

I agree with Rigel that the story of Alan Wake was excellent, but I hated playing it.

I haven't played any of the other games in your list.

Thanks, dlb. I think Arkham Asylum is pretty high on my list once I've finished Reach. Arkham City out soon, as well! 8)

I really recommend the Ninja Gaiden games to anyone who likes hack'n'slash.

I am awating Skyrim which arrives 11/11/11, as I have enjoyed Oblivion quite a lot. May not be your speed, but that is the game that I am really looking forward to.

Oh yeah, Arkham Asylum was great as well :)

I tried one of the Ninja Gaiden games - Black, I think? - but the camera was horrible, and the difficulty was insane.

Haha, you started on the wrong one. Black is the one the developers made for the hardcore fans who wanted an even more ridiculously hard challenge than the first version presented.

The original was still freaking insane- my attempt to clock it on the "very hard" level is the closest a game has come to reducing me to tears. Just played on normal it is difficult, but the intensity of the action is the best I've encountered in a hack'n'slash. The boss battles are particularly of note. Closest second is the God of War games for the Playstation.

If you feel like giving it another try, I recommend picking up Ninja Gaiden 2, as it is not quite as hard as 1, and lots of the technical troubles have been sorted out.

Thanks Doc, I haven't played any of the Elder Scrolls, but I do enjoy RPGs, currently playing The Witcher, and KOTOR is one of my all time favourites. Seen the trailers for Skyrim, looks epic. Maybe one to look at when it's been out for a while- relesing at around $130 here. 8O

I picked up Oblivion "game of the year" version for $10 bucks used at Gamestop. Don't know if they have those near you, but used games have been good to me.

Glad you liked it. Arkham City is looking great, I can't wait for Oct. 18th.

I just finished LA Noire a couple of nights ago. Very different game, unlike anything I've ever played. Awesome story, but some weird gameplay bugs. It's worth a rental at least.

They all look good to me, Jaz. I'm a FPS, RPG, stealth player. Sometimes platformers. Not really into sports or fighting or racing. Except for Mario Kart. Mario Kart rules.

Really just found this forum today. I think it's a place where I have sort of spotted before, but never bothered to come down the corridor, round the corner and into the room. I'm here Cambo because I too am the proud owner of a 360 (for about 6 months now) and I've had some great fun on it. Arkham Asylum - of course. Reach started it but got sidelined by Tomb Raider Anniversary which was grreeaatttt and am now just starting Oblivion and Bioshock having bought the 'Classic Twin Pack' containing both games.

But I must ask all to bow down and p(l)ay homage to the greatest game of all - the incomparable Half- Life 2. Cambo if you have never played this game get yourself a copy of 'The Orange Box', which has HL2, portal and a few add ons etc, and has got to be one of the best gaming experiences ever. Start with HL2 and then tell me that you don't want to run round the Watch carrying me shoulder high......

Best thing you can buy for your 360 is a PS3. :)

 Peter, I played HL2 on the original Xbox. Many times over. Then I got a box set of HL2 and the two episodes for my PC (no Portal, alas). Played those many times over as well. So I agree with you, it's the best shooter and one of the best games I've ever played. If you had been the one to introduce me to it, I'd be bowing down and kissing your feet.

I am really enjoying SKYRIM at the moment. Challenging, and it makes you make decisions that you can't walk away from (Do you support the Nords or the Imperials in the Civil War...?). Great stuff.
