Pimping my photo: please vote for me!

Post by Seareach »

Hey everyone:

So, I'm a keen amateur photographer. Every now and again I enter my pictures in photography competitions. Australia's biggest online news service (news.com.au) sponsors a travel photography competition. Each week they select 10 pictures and people can vote online for the pic they think is the best. This week I'm a finalist!

So if anyone wants to help me out and vote please take the time to go to:
www.news.com.au/travel/news/escapes-you ... 6280646487

Down the bottom of the page is a black box. Click on it to start the selection thing and all you have to do is click on the picture you like....and keep clicking on the one you like until you have gone through all 10 photos and then submit your vote.

Of course, you want to vote for this picture:

The image is cropped on the competition page.

Anyway, vote once, vote twice, vote a gazillion times. If I win the $200 for the week I'll shout all who voted for me a drink next time we get together. ;) :D More importantly for me though, the pic will be published in the Escape magazine (which comes out weekly I think). That's what I really want--to be published in that. :)

Of course, vote for a different one if you prefer. There's one particularly gorgeous one in that lot of pics which probably deserves to win more than mine does but...heh...

Thanks to everyone who helps out

Nothing happens on clicking the photos - may it be it's down for now, or does it accept votes only from certain territories, or something else may be wrong?

hmmmm...not sure. I'd assume it wasn't restricted to Australian voters. I was having trouble with it working early this morning. :? Or it might need a certain program/flashplayer/something to work. But, hey: thanks for trying. :) Greatly appreciated. I'll still shout you a bevy if I win! :)

Worked for me. Yes, I voted for you. I sorta might have liked the waterfall pic a little more, but hey...I voted for you anyway. ;) (Twice.)

I see you're second right now. Need a few more. Don't know why people like the current 1 though.

I voted for you and it worked just fine. Personally as a fellow photographer, I think the one that is in first place is actually the worst of the lot. Sea, your image is honestly my favorite of the bunch with the pelican sunset second. I will say that the cropping does make the image suffer a bit when you get to see the entire image first so the voting contest is unfair to those viewers/voters who don't get to see your image as it is meant to be seen. I think if they could see it in it's entirety you would easily be number one.

That said, it's gorgeous, absolutely gorgeous. You have a seriously gifted eye for the lens.

Thanks everyone. Your votes are greatly appreciated. :) And thanks for your comments too. I agree about the cropping thing. This was a complaint last year while the competition was running but nothing has been done about it. I guess everyone is in the same boat, although some pics suffer less with the cropping than others.

I am guessing the mist photo is being voted on copiously by the photographer and his/her friends (as I realized you can vote more than once). <shrug> What can you do. But, well, I don't think it's a great photo at all. If it wins everyone can think "WTF". Maybe minus the crop it'd be better. ;)

Oh, and I should say: look, if you prefer to vote for another of the pics go right ahead. I don't really believe in twisting people's arms just coz you know me. If my pic wasn't it in, I would choose the lily pad one but, yeah...not going to vote against myself. :) No hard feelings if you do (because I won't know anyway <grin>).

I voted for you, Sea. You're in a close second, after the London Eye picture.

Great photo, Sea, and some of the other ones are good. The snow tree was my favorite of the others.
