2012 NFL Whipping Post.

Post by Mr. Broken »

Well I was going to wait for the draft, but free agency broke open yesterday , and a lot is happening.

4 teams still in the Manning hunt.
No one has yet made Mario Williams an offer he cant refuse.
The Dolphins who are 1 of 4 chasing Manning , are also in a dead heat with the Browns for the services of QB Matt Flynn.
... oh, they also just traded WR Brandon Marshall ( who has been accused of slugging a woman outside of a nightclub ) to the Bears.
WR M. Colston is still a Saint.
WR V. Jackson is now a Buccaneer.
WR P. Garcon is now a Redskin.
WR R. Meachem is now a Charger
QB J. Cambell is now a Bear.
LB D. Jackson still a Brown.
RB. P. Hillis is shopping.

carl nicks signed with tampa.

the cowboys and redskins get fined for not viiolating a written rule. instead the owners got together and decided not to do something. isn't that collusion?

RB Peyton Hillis has decided to put off plans to join the CIA, and has decided to join the Chiefs instead.

The Browns have signed DE Frostee Rucker from the Bengals.

I am guessing Manning joins the Titans, though he would be better off in Denver.

and how does Bud Adams get away with offering him a job after his football career is over. that doesn't violate the slary cap structure?

Denver doesn't need Manning's (considerable) remaining abilities, they just need to continue developing the (also considerable) talents of the QB they signed two years ago and have started to use.

john elway seems to not tim tebow as his starter.

if manning signs in denver, tebow likely goes to jacksonville.

Free Agency is now in full swing, with teams (well most teams) snapping up players left, and right like bears at a salmon run. The Buffalo Bills have signed Mario Williams at 96 mil, 50 guaranteed. Wow. Williams is now the highest paid defensive player in the league's history.

In Cleveland a mass exodus has begun...... (frustrated pause)
Peyton Hillis gone.
Eric Steinbach gone.
Mike Adams gone.
Artis Hicks gone.
Tony Pashos gone.
oh yeah, RG3 gone.( well our shot at getting him anyway )

The Browns have signed something called a Frostee Rucker, and a Juqua Parker who to his credit already has a decade in the game.

Such is the life of a Browns fan.

The Browns have signed several free agents since last week, but have barely made a ripple in the pool. However none of those signings were the promised help for Colt McCoy. Conventional wisdom says to add receivers in the draft, the Browns have 2 picks in the first round . Myself I prefer to bet on a sure thing. The Browns should trade the #4 pick to the Steelers, for Mike Wallace.

The Bronco's have unretired the number 18 for their new starting QB. Peyton Manning, Tebowmania has run its course in Denver.

At least one ESPN guy said it was possible and a good idea...but it's the Jets.
And pretty cheap, too...a fourth round pick to Denver...and if the numbers I saw are right [don't think it was "official" yet, a leak], Jets ain't paying T much.
It just seems a weird match to me attitude/personality-wise.

the Jets had used Brad Smith in a type of wildcat, so they have plays already set up for Tebow.

but I can imagine Sanchez must not be too thrilled.

No way, the benefits of Steelin a Steeler star, coupled with a proven receivers influence on the offense , and opposing defenses, the first weapon ever given Colt McCoy. Besides its rumored that the agent of the best receiver available in the draft, asked the Browns not to bother his client at the combine.

but there is now way that Wallace is worth the number 4 pick.

why not draft Richardson out of Alabama?

I have read a few mocks that have you taking Michael Floyd the wide out from Notre Dame. if so, that's a great first round right there.

plus your 2nd round pick is high. you are poised for a great draft...

plus Frank Minnifield's kid is in the draft this year...

I wonder if the Browns learned anything about passing on legacy players when they passed on Clay Mathews Jr.?

Yes , they just haven't proved it on the field. Organizationally they have not returned to the days of wasting 2 first round picks on Brady Quinn, or trading away several role players to get one star. I want them to do more in free agency , but I can't complain about their last couple of drafts.

I believe Winslow Sr. was a Charger not a Brown which is why I did not include him as a legacy player.
