Do we need more rp activity on the Watch in general, not only in GT?

Yes, and I'm going to be in the first rows!

More Role-play on the Watch

Post by Lefdmae Deemalr Effaeldm »

I like role-play a lot, and the Watch has some wonderful and inspiring samples of how it may be done well. I'm enjoying both the GT part of the Watch, and the rp elements that appear to different extent in other parts. I mean what DPJ does, some elements of playing as their characters from those who chose specific characters for their form names from SRD's books or elsewhere and the like. But the activity in GT is slow and mostly dependent on turns, and they require gathering everything at a time and a GM processing, so very slow. And the second variant is quite rare.

So what I'm asking about - I think more things like that could make the activity on Watch generally higher and provide extra entertainment. Like in, a Watcher chooses or invents an interesting character and goes from that points wherever this road takes. What do you think?

IMHO, there's a reason we sequester RPGs in GT...

But I may be in the minority. Who knows?

Effy- I actually came here from a "Wheel of Time"-themed RP (and pk) mud.

I think the trick is finding a balance where rp is neither so high-investment that peeps like me or you don't want to participate...
...but not so low-investment that people get kinda lazy!
Don't know how we'd end up pulling that off without having some kind of equivalent of "in-game consequences."

I definitely find the Watch's hoofed mammal "RP" zany and hilarious sometimes... though I'd not be likely to participate.
Although, I mean, it's good, clean RP... no pigs, donkeys, horses, hyraxes, ferrets, etc. in the group, so far!
(i've been waiting to use that pun for awhile now!)

They don't take long looks at anything, because they lack the courage.

RP's never been my strong suit. Even at the Renn-Fests I've worked at, I can barely manage anything resembling "in-character." If other people want to, though, that's fine with me, so long as it doesn't clog up other places with various annoyances.

As for GT, though, when games are in full swing, especially Pantheon, you'll see a lot of banter in the forums. As a GM, I highly encourage it, but it's really up to the players participating. If this is your thing, there are still slots in Acropolis to fill.

I have posted occasionally "in-character" on the forum as how I view "Menolly" from Pern would reply, especially when I first joined, and only wound up confusing others when I did so. However, I also know several Watchers have multiple "alt" accounts, where their posts and attitudes can be completely different from their known account.

There have also been occasions where some of us would change our main accounts to fit a game in a thread for a short time, and post in-character then. I recall a Battlestar Galactica-themed one for a short time.

So, what is being suggested is done already, I think. Just not very often.

Define "wrong."

Where is that hidden 'adults only' forum anyway?

The casino broke the economy worse than the great Revan crash did. We're better off without it. :D

Keep role-playing to the game forums insofar as possible.

We do have some RP characters around...they don't come out that often anymore, but I thought I heard Fangthane and Higgs in the distance the other day...

Not really, we're everywhere) Just in a different concentration

The poll for now is 60% for the 1st option, 20% for the second, 20% for the fourth

I mean just like behaving in character and posting so - in the amount you like and find not disruptive to the activity on the Watch

Some confusion is possible if people don't know the character, but it should be no problem to understand the reason. I'll be glad if you start something like that again.

And that it's present already is exactly what I wrote about in the first post, just that I'd like more and reminding people or suggesting for some more to join.

Well, I'm suggesting mostly quantitative changes) Not anything completely new, more activity and people joining and all.

Right, but the Watch isn't a democracy, and there's sensible reasons that's the case...

And the poll isn't necessarily reflective of what people actually want.
For example, I voted in the first option, but given what Av just said, I personally wouldn't be trying to create excess intentional "role-play" situations outside of GT.
(fine, call me an obsessive rules-follower...)

Also, this is just an online poll... Most of the people who were thinking "hmm, I don't care a whole lot one way or another" probably just didn't vote.

How are you going to role-play a zombie not to annoy the people with endless same things to say?

I said that and started the poll not for democracy, aliantha said about minority, I gave her the current stats, that's as accurate as I have. I don't say it's a reason to enforce rp on everyone or something like that)

And, of course, not in excess amounts. And if people don't care much and didn't vote because of that, they're pretty much neutral and it doesn't really change the results, not like anyone cares for them too much as well.

My idea was mostly to remind and perhaps see the level of enthusiasm, if any. People already role-play and I like that and wanted to see some more. It's more like whoever wants it just goes and does it, and keeps it in the mind not to make it spoil the experience on the Watch for the others, and perhaps improve it.
