It's time for anyone interested in playing Heart of God to step forward and present the character they'll be using.

As the rules state, these characters are Idols, worshipped as gods by the tribes that created them. After the Faith of their tribes caused them to awaken and become real, they set out to find a way to keep this power, and become true gods: So, they each came to the formerly-hidden land of the Heart of God.

As the game begins, each of you has recently arrived in the area with your followers, and begun to settle down for the long task of reaching the Heart.

Not much right now. Familiarise yourself with the rules, and come up with a character you want to play. Since there's nothing like domains or specialisations, and the only stats are assigned by me, you don't really need to provide me with more than your idol's name, though if you want to fill in more you can.

Amusing. When you check out Shimone's profile, it says 0 posts there, too. But if you hit "find all posts", it brings up the one post.

Easiest way to fix that... just recycle a character from some other game. Even one that's still in progress.

The thing is that the role-play part is important for me, and I don't really have a character fitting well for what is supposed to be me in this game. I have a new one, and many things are already thought out, but I have to come up with a name yet.

I really really struggled for a while to name my character over in Darkwood. Ended up with Led Pighp. Pronounced "lead pipe". 'Cause if I was going to come up with a not-effective name, I might as well make it as uneffective as I could. And stealing the name from the sociopath child pre-rolled character in a goofy RPG seemed just about right.

I once created a character named Manny Cestus (some online game). I got his name from looking at the foreign translations on the manufacturer's label of a laundry basket. :mrgreen:

I've never had a problem with names. I think the trick is to realize that in the vast majority of cases, the name isn't going to come from nowhere. Even names we just think of names have their roots in some other word. Sure, sometimes it just comes to you (like Angus Thermopylae to Donaldson or Jonathan Livingston Seagull to Richard Bach), but most of the time, you have to steal it.

Simjen was a transliteration of a Hebrew name (Shimon). Aarklar I took from a South Park episode and changed a letter. Velt was chosen for its similarity to Veldt and the word "vert" (green). The only name I've even close to made up is Mynaesos, a pseudo-greek name for an androgynous deity.

I get a lot from online baby name lists. Do a quick google for "german baby boy names" or "hungarian baby girl names", and just skim until you find one that looks exotic enough.

Hit up wikipedia, and skim the lists of common latin or greek words... find one with a meaningful meaning (no pun intended). Menolly's Agape came from one of the greek words for love. (Ironically, agape is a very platonic love, not the sexual love that her character ended up embracing later. But, nothing says you have to stick within the boundaries later.)

All my god names have been named from ancient languages or religions. Maeror is latin for grief, IIRC; Bel is an ancient middle eastern word for Lord; Nergal was a Babylonian god who ruled the netherworld. Bel's prophet ul-zakaru is just the Akkadian for "nameless".

Well that's what happens when you refuse to comply. :lol:

ZA was a fun game. I know it's not great for the affected player, but I liked that everyone-out-for-themselves dynamic.

Coincidentally, you're about to start running a game designed to pit all the players against each other.

I just wanted to make a game with a clear "end", since the others tend to be open-ended, with a side goal of encouraging competition so that it's not beneficial to just sit and build endlessly. Whether it's successful depends on how you folks approach the game - and on whether I manage to run it right.
