Effoul's prodding me with a pointy Illearth Stone fragment to post, so blame her for the spam. :P

Apparently I never uploaded the final version here (even though my memory claims elsewise), save for the Album. This is from summer 2011. Here's a rather larger copy with many of the details more discernible. The sword's based on an actual Viking blade discovered in an armored woman's grave in Suontaka, Finland, nicknamed "The Princess Sword" in the re-enactment circles.

(Generally the armor would demand some tweaking, which seems hardly practical at this phase, nevertheless. I like better the models I've designed to the 3rd chrons giantesses.)

i love the color - the tattoos are based on real tribal markings?

and i would so hack her toes off - just saying...

Thanks!

The tattoos, among other motives, are based on Iron Age Nordic art. In all probability, people did acquire tattoos copiously back then (compare: Pictish customs), but bodies preserve themselves poorly outside bogs here.

She could well wear stone-capped boots--Rime & co do--but sandals have actually played a significant role in historical military wear. See: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Caligae

You posted it! Wonderful, it's worth every praise it can get and many times more)

As for tatoos, I think you're likely right, it's like with dinosaurs - there's no way to tell the colors from the remains, so the scientists mostly go by similarities and practical logic, though no way to say for sure.

I do think stone-capped boots could be a more sure thing, but the sandals fit well and there's no proof against them either, why couldn't any Swordmain wear either on choice - heavier and more solid or lighter and more flexible.

WOW! Image

Also I wish to say: the use of the various shades of gray give the work a very three-dimensional feel. Skillfully done, Frostheart!!!

Thanks. Hmm, my icon appears to share her frown...perhaps the Swordmainnir practice that expression afore a mirror to appear all solemn and pensive!

As if their size wasn't intimidating enough! ;)

I see it as more of a 'You've GOT to be kidding me' look, maybe due to the raised eyebrow. Not the sort of look you want to get from someone holding a large sword.

Very nice work. I'm glad you posted it.

Regarding the sandals, I like them, from an artistic perspective but maybe swordmainir wouldn't take the risk. They're giants after all and all those shorties running around their legs might get the wrong idea when they see their exposed toes. Just saying.

Do seafarers where sandals? I have no idea. If water got on the deck sandals might prevent waterlogged boots so maybe they would be a good idea.

I always see the giants as more...rocky...really. Probably affected by the Rockbiter from The Neverending Story. :D

Also, I'll edit that link into the original post thanks. And set the image to show Frosty as the poster. (And fixed her avatar. :D )

Or so I presume.

Sadly, my mental image is more informed by Jaws (the Richard Kiel one).
Although Robert Maillet is a bit closer to the mark.

That's the Dead corrupted by the Stone, right? So Elena, Kevin and...somebody? A Giant?

(Really...I definitely "see" them as a species that is not human.)

No, those present at the Colossus in that scene are Cov, Elena (dead), Foamfollower, Bannor, and Triock.

Seems right to me, since it's the one I grew up on, with the red LFB and blue TIW.

I like it.
But I don't know why Foamfollower lost his clothes.

It seems like something Deryll is fond of, though.
Honninscrave also lost his clothes on the cover of White Gold Weilder.
