Best and Worst films

Post by Loredoctor »

Just interested in people's favourite and most disliked films. For me, my favourite would have to be the German film, Das Boot. My most disliked film would have to be the Real Cancun (if you could call it a film).

Favorite all-time: I suppose its the film that I've watched more than any other. Seems kind of trite, but its. ..Star Wars.

Worst all-time: Supergirl.

Favorite? It's very hard to pick just one. Still, I can cheat and say the Lord of the Rings trilogy. Well, I can say it next week, for sure.

Least favorite? Starship Troopers, hands down.

Wow! I thought the Emperor's New Grove was terrific. It is among my favorite animated stories. :-)

I think "The emperors new groove" is great because it's the one and only full length (well almost anyway) animated movie I know that uses cartoon stuff. I simply love it!
Unlike my least favorite film it doesn't take itself seriously, much more fun that way! :D

Ermingard, are you speaking of the Joan of Arc mini-series from television (starring Leelee Sobieski, the Helen Hunt lookalike) or The Messenger, the Joan of Arc theatrical movie starring the woman who was the female lead in The Fifth Element (her name escapes me)?

Or maybe you didn't like either one? :P

I'm happy to say I haven't (and will never see) From Justin to Kelly.
Ugh!
If I actually watched that or Battlefield Earth they might change my mind aobut the worst film ever.

I haven't seen the miniseries so I can't comment on that. ;)
I mean the movie (and her name is Milla Jovovitch (spelling?))
Blearg! :x
She takes one of the strongest women in medeival history and turns her into a bubbleheaded, trembling excuse for a human beeing.
And she's a model, and she can look cool, but she sure can't act! :!:

Heh, I've never actually watched From Justin to Kelly]. I mean, come on! I'm not suicidal! But fact is, at IMDB.com, From Justin to Kelly is ranked #1 in the BOTTOM 100--100 worst movies. And over 50,000 people vote there, so I think that's a HUGE indicator of the movie's crap-factor.

ALSO:

'Manos' the Hands of Fate

That is the title of the worst movie of all time. That is not my opinion. That is simple, unadulterated fact--period. Manos is the worst ever and has been hailed by the most people and for the longest time as the worst ever. Worst. Ever.

Two wow-inducing facts about Manos:

1) Directed by a fertilizer salesman . . .
2) Three of the actors committed suicide the year the movie was made.

Ermingard, I would have to agree with you. I actually like the Joan of Arc mini-series, but The Messenger was pretty lame.'

Not Battlefield Earth lame, but pretty lame.

Favorite - Fight Club
Least - Natural Born Killers (now, I know there are worse movies than this, but this is the one that always comes to mind).
"It is not the literal past that rules us, save, possibly, in a biological sense. It is images of the past. Each new historical era mirrors itself in the picture and active mythology of its past or of a past borrowed from other cultures. It tests its sense of identity, of regress or new achievement against that past.”

True, but it's also true that it was undoubtedly the worst movie that Joel and the bots had to suffer. Even Dr. Forrester and TV's Frank felt sorry for making them suffer through that one.

Best & Worst Movies

Post by matrixman »

My favorite movie of all time:

2001: A Space Odyssey

-A film that proves more than any other that you don't need verbose dialogue or much dialogue at all to tell a deeply philosophical story. Just let the images do the talking, and 2001 has some of the best in all of cinema.

My least favorite movie:

Where to begin?? How about anything starring Jim Belushi?

Oh man, I know what you mean, Matrixman, but funnily enough this has to do with a semi-movie: a DVD of Pink Floyd playing live as Pompeii. Anyway, the director either did these LONG-ARSE shots that panned from faraway, taking about two minutes to focus in on the band, or he always focused on the drummer Nick Mason, or he used crappy 70s special effects. I was like, "For god's sake stop looking at the bubbling volcano and FILM THE BAND! Let their MUSIC speak for itself! It doesn't need your camera tricks!"
