her memory clouds

Post by sgt.null »

my mom sent me a notebook of my poetry/poems from at least twenty years ago. most of it is absolutely dreadful and will never again see the light of day. i'll keep the notebook on my shelf to remind me how far i have come. but here are a few...

first one is a "homage" to Husker Du. meaning I ripped them off.

empty feeble mind

my empty feeble mind
is always wasting time
seeing things just not there
nothing that I can share

my empty feeble mind
only one of it's kind
bright sunshine shining in
don't know where it ends

my empty feeble mind
can't think another rhyme
doesn't matter much anyway
I'll just try another day

angels of vacancy

Jesus
wept

unfinished poem

it doesn't mean
I don't love you
it just means that
you don't love me

catho-ray painting

graphic colour fields
drag across
red to blue to green
shape shadows
smear about
inside the lines
outside the time
green to grey to black

Amerika

o' beautiful, for deadly skies
and poisonous grain
for strip-mined mountains
above the barren plains
Amerika - Amerika
God weeps for thee
for the ghettoes spread
from sea to toxic sea

Carol

I look into
your eyes
and I don't
see you
looking back

death to the heathen

never
knew
you were
talking
about
me

ocean blue

a canvas before all
but he didn't swim
just sort of floated
water brackish kiss
salt waves assault
undertow pulling again

one

and the end result
being another one
and the result of
that being the one
you had being yet
another one and the
result is once more...

and now where the collection title came from. :)

letting go

sketch of
painted window faces
pressing
against me
letting go
dancing for her

water cold
swimming
growing
tired letting
go under
the new ceiling

wind rapes
across
wet concrete
flying
collision closer
letting go

her memory clouds
and I am
left with you
letting
go becomes
not enough

I had forgotten I had lyrics for this...
I was working under the assumption
it was supposed to be an instrumental.

J drift 43

cat fell asleep
in the drum
other one didn't
she fell asleep
on the floor
but I didn't
trip over her

the window
was left open
cats jumped out
third floor
they are gone
further south
or maybe north

the dishwasher
and the washer
are running now
but I forgot
to fill them
too late
my bedtime

I know it is about depression, and
someone leaving, but
I can't remember why I used these
specific images.

this first was actually something I witnessed in NYC. at Washington Square park a man was walking around the fountain chanting the lyrics at full volume.

If You Think...

if you think I can't love...
well, I'm trying to learn.

empty pages

empty spaces
I must fill
between the words
I wrote for you

pausing

the ink dries
like the feelings
you had for me

static

buzzing
in my ears
sound
distorted
can't hear
what
is said
tuning
fiddling
with
the dial
buzzing
is still

rich old ladies too short to drive

drive it home
homeward bound - boundless energy
energize me - me, myself and I
I don't know - know what to do
do it right - right me if I am wrong
wrong way - way out of there
there, all done.

not sure why it doubled.

here is a punk rock song from the book

Democracy Conspiracy

one man
one vote
our government
is a joke

business perks
tax cuts
poor always
getting f*cked

congress spends
women shunned
no insurance
ain't it fun

bouncing checks
Clarence Thomas
senator's lies
equal promise

nuclear plants
fossil fuels
mideast oil
we always lose

abortion rights
Catholic church
school prayer
never works

It does read very "young", null, but there are glimpses of latent genius in there.

Your jazz-like rhythms:
drive it home
homeward bound - boundless energy
energize me - me, myself and I
I don't know - know what to do
do it right - right me if I am wrong
wrong way - way out of there
there, all done.
And I'm with lorin, this IS lovely...
her memory clouds
and I am
left with you
letting
go becomes
not enough
and I keep going back to that "brackish kiss"... :)

go back and read Democracy Conspiracy
added because of a double post.

now one my friend wrote for me to use...

Tombstone for my Snowman (George Woods)

pile of snow in my yard
dirty with sand and rocks
maybe some coal
maybe a carrot
M E L T I N G
tombstone for my snowman

Dark Ruin

thunder
grey and heavy
rain
in Atlanta?
summer
magnetic sun
love

lightning
blue and static
gravity
dull aether?
winter
frozen time
love
