Vampire: Dark Ages (Vienna) - Chapter 6: The Estates

It is the evening of April 16th, 1205. Day 28 of the lunar cycle, and so there is a waning crescent moon in the sky. The previous days' overcast is finally starting to lift, and there are stars in the sky to the East. Clouds still fill the western sky, and the sunset was glorious (for those who could see it).

Marianna of Twinsriver wakes to a cold and silent room, empty of any light or fire. Nothing in the room seems disturbed from when she was last aware of her surroundings, and the chill seems to imply that it has been undisturbed for some time.

She does, however, hear some soft scuffling from outside the door, which remains latched tight from the inside. She listens for a few moments, and the scuffling continues, as if there were someone shuffling around idly in the hall. She hears a few bars of idle humming, which is then cut short. The scuffling continues, however.

[OMG, I totally forgot to add Casper back in. I'm such a bad GM.]

Casper also wakes up in his own rooms, also within Isabella's mansion. Hannalore is not present, though nothing else seems out of sorts. And, it's not unheard of for her to leave Casper's rooms during the day, so this isn't alarming.

Marianna rises, lights the candles and looks around the room for anything of note. She goes to the fireplace and starts a fire, keeping an ear on the scuffling noise.

The room is as Marianna remembers it, though admittedly she hadn't had a lot of time to inspect it yester-eve, before the day's lethargy forced her from consciousness.

It is set up as a typical mortal guest bedroom, though given Isabella's status, it is quite the well appointed place. Few would notice that the room's shutters were perhaps thicker and better made than one might find, enough so that no tiny cracks admitted the sun's cursed light into the room.

The exterior walls are all of stout stone, and the interior walls are of sturdy wood. All are covered with thick tapestries to keep the chill out. The floor is also of firm wood, with thick rugs aplenty. The bed is perhaps a bit small for a sleeping mortal, but plenty for the still corpse of a day-time vampire. Nonetheless, it is covered with several thick blankets, topped by a bear's winter pelt.

There is a small writing desk against the exterior wall, and a large trunk at the foot of the bed. Finally, there is a small table against the wall by the bed. Atop the table is a ceramic bowl that might otherwise contain water for washing one's face. Next to that are a small pair of shears and a hair brush. Both are immaculately clean. On the wall above the table is a small mirror, perhaps the most expensive thing in the room.

As Marianna opens the trunk, she finds that all of her possessions, or at least the ones she had brought with her from Florence, were there. It looks as though her several bags and boxes were unopened, and had simply been put within the trunk before Isabelle had shown her the room.

Opening the trunk causes a bit of noise, though nothing outrageous. Still, this seems to trigger the person outside to action. The shuffling picks up slightly, and then there is a hesitant knock at the door. No attempt is made to open the door, but a woman's voice can be heard from without. "Milady? May I enter? I am instructed to help you prepare for the evening." Marianna doesn't recognize the voice.
