Thanks for the entry, null. Reminds me of a dog we had when I was a kid, who after a while learned to spell-- at least "G-O" and "W-A-L-K" and "C-A-R". :)

I never would have guessed that... that adds something.

I enjoyed the poem. :)

High on a mountain
A woman whose brother died
Was a source of Light

Young adults and kids
Threatened by a dreaded plague
Found shelter with her

The Love that is G-d
Radiated from her life
And all in her house

Called home far too soon
Her courage did nor falter
Nor can ours waver

The work she started
The Light she manifested
Is carried forward
Yes, I am an alt
Whose? An open secret to
Attentive Watchers

the great Grunter
Stinkbottom once
unfettered and frothing,
now staid to his trothing.

Grunter comes from Sonny's habit
whenever he is forced to move from
where he is sleeping. even at a young age.
Stinkbottom should be self explaining.

at night we shelter
in place, under his
imperial aegis, deep
in the heart of Tejas.

whenever there is a problem with one
of the chemical plants here, people are
told to shelter in place.

brindled and trying to
herd the unheard.
we no longer have
to spell out the words.

his coloring is called brindled. he is a
Catahoula Hound. the herd is the kids
who live behind us. his breed is used
for sheepherding. he used to sit and
bark for them to come out if they were
indoors.

he has been our good
boy and our better son.
and truth to the telling,
we are the fortunate ones.

those who know our trouble with Julie's
son will understand that part. but it is
what Julie has said many of times.

Julie liked the poem so much she demanded
annotations.

So can we write a November poem now??

Yep!! Sorry, crazy busy lately. Gratified by the interest! :)

November, just to get that going:Thankfulness, of course.

October's winner: Ugh, I didn't know how tough it was going to be, to choose. I gotta go with Sarge's paean to his deaf doggy.

I want to see more of Wayfriend's psi-fi poetry, though, and the Dread Pirate is always welcome. (Wish I had met Her, whoever she was.)

The Dread Poet's "Her" was the Guardian Angel of the Watch: Furl's Fire. If you have time, you should read through Stephen's thread and Furl's journal entries, deer.

I have read some of them. I was absent from the watch for a couple of years at the time of her passing. Her presence is still strongly felt here... and true.

No takers for November? I guess everyone is too busy.

December's theme: Light in darkness.

But December's theme... woo!

Ahh!! You're on to me!
"People without hope not only don't write novels, but what is more to the point, they don't read them.
They don't take long looks at anything, because they lack the courage.
The way to despair is to refuse to have any kind of experience, and the novel, of course, is a way to have experience."

by the warm glow of a night-light

static, electrical discharge...
early morning, some before
you rise - unnoticed, disguised.

I have to close one of the drives
"

faded out, worn down, empty...
the glow dies in your eyes.

Cold pre-dawn peaceful darkness
Interrupted by jogging footfalls
The beat of rubber soles reaches me
Some disciplined soul starting her day
As I lay embraced in my warm bed
Sudden illumination through the blinds
No, not the dawn come early
The neighbor’s motion-triggered lights…
Focus on where you are going and why.

At Last

We are the Keepers of the New Womb
that you our daughter inhabit, inherit.
As we have seen in your beauty the incarnation
of our bodies, so now, is the realisation
of our devotion revealed to us.
Now we see
the vessel into which we have, instinctively
poured our selves. Here is fertile soil
for you to root deeply in, to leave boldly from.

May our steadfast desire be the pure stuff
from which you construct your eye.
May your clear sight, with a kindling light
illuminate our true home and reveal,
at last, that we are not alone.

u.

P.S. Not for inclusion in the competition. It's an old poem (15+ years) written after the occasion of my first niece's birth. Just wanted to add my bit to the theme of light in dark. (And Linna and Deer may enjoy the religious reference  )

Thank you, deer.

Since you are online again, does this mean you have arrived back in Jos?
