Pete Seeger Dead at 94

Post by Hashi Lebwohl »

Although technically this is "news", it is music news and fits in more appropriately here. Folk Icon, Activist Pete Seeger Dies at 94
The legendary folk singer and activist Pete Seeger has died at the age of 94. Seeger helped found the American folk music movement. He played with Woody Guthrie and the Almanac Singers in the 1940s, stood up against Senator Joseph McCarthy’s witch hunt in the 1950s, and opposed the Vietnam War in the 1960s, inspiring generations of protest singers to come. We’ll spend the hour remembering Seeger after headlines.
Whether you agreed with his politics or not, his influence on folk music--and by extension rock & roll, a daughter genre of folk--is unquestioned and vitally important.

God bless him! We have a vynil LP of his and have played it and played it. My favourite? Little Boxes They just played it on the radio downstairs and I sang with it all the way through. :D
I am playing all the right notes, but not necessarily in the right order!

The public access radio station here in the Metroplex, KNON (89.3), has a show on Tuesday mornings called "Everybody's Folk" hosted by Jenny Peel (or Peele, I am uncertain how she spells it). She was playing a lot of Seeger this morning on the way to work.
