Donaldson in Wooster, Ohio on Thursday Oct 16, 2014

Post by wayfriend »

This just came to my attention. If you are near Wooster, Ohio, there is an interesting event in [just!] three days.
Epic Fantasy Writer Stephen Donaldson to Share Excerpts of His Latest Work

WOOSTER, Ohio — Stephen Donaldson, author of the highly acclaimed series The Chronicles of Thomas Covenant and a visiting writer in residence at The College of Wooster this fall, will share passages from his latest work, The King's Justice, on Thursday, Oct. 16, in Room 009 of Severance Hall (943 College Mall). The event, which is free and open to the public, begins at 7 p.m. [more]

For me, neither. I hate that, though - would be great for a KW contingent to show up and support him.

I can find virtually nothing about SRD's latest work, apart from Romeo dropping in and saying it was called The Augur's Gambit - so now it's called the King's Justice? Novella? That's about it - there's nothing on the SRD website, and nothing much on this site either. Very strange...

I'm thinking he might want to change the name again.

Why has he shaved away his mansfield? Did the King's Justice demand that? What's up with this international crusade against masculine hair anyhow?

I would not put it past the news here to get the title of the book wrong.

For example, these guys say he is reading from the "last installment of the Chronicles of Thomas Covenant".

Then again, I would not put it passed the publishers to mandate a title change. Remember Shall Pass Utterly?

SRD's website is a bit under-maintained. Nothing under "Appearances", for example. Don't look for details there. (Sorry, Romeo.)

Good questions, Softy!
Without going too much into spoilers, I can say, having read the book in the last fifteen minutes, that, yes, the King's Justice does demand such. Lord Smoothsack (pictured) was in a struggle against the evil King Fluffynethers. What a scene when they crossed swords while meeting Lady Shivertongue...

Now, to the other question, is there an international crusade against man hair? I think this is a complicated question. Hairless is nice, but only if the guy is in good shape. I guess you are on the side of more hair is best?
Is this you sniffing here?

Hair smells... and yet, there is just too much of it! A balance must be struck...

And as far as going, I would love to... but I happen to be employed, and by the time I got there (factoring I would be leaving during rush hour :-x ) it would be nine o'clock.

And you wouldn't want me to go because I'd just brag about it without providing any details

Hey, That's where I went to College. Be neat to go back and see how the place has changed!
War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things. The decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feeling which thinks that nothing is worth war is much worse. The person who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature and has no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself. That's great to hear, Sea, thanks for letting us know! (Good to see you around, BTW. Your name was invoked many times at the E'fest. Now that SRD will have a new book, hopefully we'll get to have another one  ).

That's cool! Is there any further info, or is this an intentional drip-feed to keep us salivating? I'm surprised that SRD is making an appearance with virtually no "advertising" - or at least a mention on his own website. It seems that most KW members don't know what's happening, or is it just me who's being kept in the dark? :shifty:
