J Sainsbury's Gold Roast; Kenco Rich Roast, but at half the price. It's about as good as coffe in a jar can be. Two heaped spoonfulls, no sugar and a slug of semi-skimmed milk. Hit's the spot at 6.30 in the morning. Digest it for two minutes then drink another. Accompany it with a B&H Gold Special Filter, stare balefully at your workmates through seething red eyes and crack on. Nobody speaks to you for the next two hours which is just the way I like it. Works every time.

Sitting down at home after a day in the shop working a delivery.

Yesterday my boss said to me "Tomorrow'll be easy; it's a really small delivery, so won't be any problem."
The driver arrived at 6.15 am and said "Dead easy Pete - three cages and a bit of chilled," and proceeded to bring them in to the store. Because it was so small my boss didn't bother to come in early as she normally would and so I was left alone to get on with it. She arrived later and said "Because the delivery is so small Pete, I'll concentrate on the office stuff today and so I was left alone to get on with it. Because it was so small we didn't rota an extra member of staff, and come two 'o' clock my boss said "I've got a late meeting tomorrow, and because the delivery is so small I'm leaving now," - and so I was left to get on with it.

At 3.00 pm I worked the last item of stock having been working the delivery alone for eight and three quater hours and unpacking and shifting two and three quater tons of stock from the cages to the shelves. And so finished my 'easy day' in which 'because it was so small' I had been left to get on with it!

Red Eye Roast Organic. Its roasted in Vermont. Very dark beans but the coffee is not as dark as I would have supposed. Still a nice taste.

Its a small bag so as soon as Im done with that its on to a bag of Miscela d'Oro Gran Crema Espresso Beans

J Sainsbury's Taste the Difference Assam. Hot and sweet. Neither brackish or insipid, this brew is as good a cuppa as you'll be served anywhere!

PG Tips, Pyramid Bag. Place in mug; add 2 rounded t-spoons of sugar; stir and compress against side of mug for 20 or so secs; remove bag and add milk to taste. Sweet!

We've switched from Starbucks to Peet's in the last couple months, since it's the only brand we can find that prints the date when the beans were roasted on the bag. You want them to be less than two weeks old. Our local Kroger stocks Peet's regularly. We've noticed a big improvement in flavor. The price is about the same.

Wow, beer or coffee... seems like date is an important factor!

Another one (if you are able to find this out) is whether or not the beans/tea leaves come from the same field. A lot of times, big companies (like Liptons) will just take all their product and blend it together. And that's why Liptons sucks a lot.

Apropos of peter's description of the taste of his recent Costa Americano, my current cup is office pot-rot. I don't know what this stuff is. If they claim it is "fresh ground", I would say that explains why it tastes like mud.

You guys tend to be much more....coffe savvy......than us Brits [tea being more our thing don't ya know], so what I say next will probably send a lot of you running for the hills, but we drink probably more instant than 'brewed' coffe in total and for this, Nescaffe is probably our main coffe seller. By and large I think it's crap, however.... I've tried the instant 'Gold - Barrista' range that's recently been introduced and it's not too bad. It's actually Ok - never going to beat a fresh-ground or percolated cup but in the case of bunging in a t-spoonfull into a cup and going for it you could do worse.
