I'm 4 or 5 episodes into season 2. It's a great show! I like almost everything about it . . . except the damn Clingon storyline. Do we really need it?

"I rule the Clingons!"
"No, *I* rule the Clingons!"
"No you don't!"
"Yes I do!"
"Let's grow hair!"
"We agree on one thing!"

:haha:

Agreed  Im loving it too and also pretty much love everything about the show. I think we have a Discovery thread in Andelain and Im not truly concerned with some of the criticism raised.

I love, love, love it. 😎

As long as I can keep it straight in my mind that Discovery is part of the multiverse Prime timeline and not related to Prime canon it would probably work for me the way the Kelvin timeline does.
However I hear rumors that CBS and Paramount television may be re merged soon making all this "Discovery must be remarkably different than classic Trek" nonsense moot. Which means future Trek series could genuinely be set in the canon Prime timeline getting us hardcore Trek fans back where we belong.
In any case I am still not paying for CBS All access. Though I am more than willing to pay for the new Disney service.
If Discovery ends up on YouTube in a few years I will catchup then and see what all of you like about the show. I hated the first episode so I am confident, based on what I have read, the series has gotten better since then.

Season one was really good. Season two blows that out of the water and it wasn't even close. I am not sure how they can improve on what they did in Season two.

Sky you have to find a way to see Season 2. You will not be disappointed.

Haven't been paying much attention here...what's the timeline issue? Some parallel universe Star Trek?

Its set a couple of years after the Enterprise left Talos IV (The pilot for STOS) but before the Enterprise is taken over by Kirk (Pike would be a fleet Captain at that time).

Ah, ok, gotcha, thanks.

Doesn't sound so bad...TNG is mostly where it starts in my head anyway. I can't do TOS anymore really...it's just too...old. :D

Discovery is nothing like TOS although they use some Canon from it. Here is a view of the Enterprise NCC 1701 in Discovery. The Captains chair is the same and the overall design but updated.

Great news for Star Trek fans like me.

CBS and Viacom will re merge at the end of the year.

What this means for classic Trek fans is that new Star Trek projects will no longer be forced to spit in the face of classic Star Trek canon since CBS will finally own the entire Star Trek universe the way Disney buying Fox assets has returned the X-Men and Fantastic Four to Marvel.
The Kelvin timeline films and Star Trek Discovery were ham strung from the beginning because of the split nature of the Star Trek property rights and had to make changes accordingly which alienated some classic Star Trek fans.
However the entire Star Trek family will, for the first time in 15 years, be able to sit down at the same table together and enjoy Trek with no reservations.

I don't know what future Trek projects will be released going forward but it's excites me to know that the prime timeline Trek can return in the near future.
