Couldn't see any thread on this talented man! I grew up with Dire Straits, and loved their epic adventures.
This song - Telegraph Road has always been a favourite of mine. His guitar style has always been effortless. Telegraph Road is a long song, but it has never felt that way to me. Something about his delivery - I just don't want it to end!
His guitar sound is so crisp and precise. What about Going Home
The guy is phenomenal. Romeo and Juliet
It's probably a bit late, since he was big in the 80s, but he still deserves a special mention, and deserves immortality!

Mark Knopfler has always been one of my favorite guitarists. He has a unique style, often plucking double or multiple strings at once effortlessly to create his signature sound. I love that.

Alchemy is a pretty awesome live album. I like how they worked themes from Local Hero into it. (Good movie, BTW.)
Industrial Disease is one of my all-time favorites, but not for any guitar-work.
His noir works like Private Investigations, Your Latest Trick, and On Every Street are compelling.
Don't forget The Princess Bride!
But if I had to pick a guitar piece, Money for Nothing is righteous for all it's lack of subtlety, Sultans of Swing has never been duplicated, and Once Upon a Time in the West is crafty. But I will always love the picking on the play out of I Feel Like Going Home, which was with the Notting Hillbillies rather than Dire Straits. [link] (It's also the saddest song in the world.)

I reckon I played Alchemy about as much as a few Pink Floyd albums back in the day! It is definitely an awesome live album.
His music scores remind me of toned down version of Michael Kamen's soundtracks. I love the accompanying music to Local Hero and the Princess Bride. Whenever there is an opportunity (ie. when the kids want to watch it) I'll happily watch the Princess Bride again, for the movie and the soundtrack.
