I’ve been doing a daily Amsler grid test due to dry aging macular degeneration for about five years now. I’ve always had the central dot fading out, so that’s considered my base. But today the adjacent line next to the dot is curved, so off I go to the ophthalmologist on an emergency basis.
Wish me well, please.
Growing old is not for the weak!

I hope everything goes well. I have a friend that is dealing with this. He is stable right now but like all things of this nature, it can change quickly.

Thanks all.

Apparently I’m a puzzlement. The vision is affected as if there are macular leaks, but even with vegetable dye scanning, no leaks are seen. There is a dry macular bump in the left retina which is probably the cause, but there is nothing to be done other than to continue the vitamins I’m on, up my spinach intake, and monitor it. So, I see both my ophthalmologist and the retina specialist in a month and hope that it stabilizes.

What did I tell you? Those rabbits aren't pulling their weight. Time to slip some meth into the rabbit chow.

How Do You Feel Today? v4

Post by Skyweir »

Ageing is definitely no party lol 😂. I find it somewhat frustrating that I can’t do the things I could do with the same sense of ease as I did only a few years ago.

I recently looked after a small property with horses and two big labs … one of the things this clients loves is my working with their dogs. But I was utterly knackered after a few hour walk with them both on leash.

They had lost a little discipline as is only to be expected when you’re a young family with little ones … and time is taken up with the morning routine and getting kidlets out of the house in time for school, - doing school runs, then wrapping up the day with baths and dinner and bedtime routines.

So the dogs pulling was a struggle … and I was unsure if I had the strength to restrain them when they’d see other dogs in the distance or passing by.

After a week there I went to meet up with a new client who has a large lab about 4yo and a large groodle (had a lot of poodle in it lol 😂) about 8 months old. Gorgeous and gangly and all legs lol 😂

I asked if we could take them for a walk and off we went … I took the big lab and I could not hold it. I ran with it cuz it seemed to want to run … but I had to pump the brakes lol 😂 as it was way faster than me and just knew things could go sideways lol 😂

I walk large dogs several days a week ~ a large german shepherd which Ive walked since he was a tot … and he was terrible on leash lol 😂 always pulling and I had to strap the leash around my waist for extra leverage lol 😂 Ive got a few cattle dogs I walk and a swiss shepherd all significantly larger than this sticky lab. But I could not confidently commit to walking this puppa even with a waist leash.

I think my diminished capacity is probably also a consequence of having COVID. Never been quite the same physically since then.

Ageing is not for the faint of heart, mind or body lol 😂

My 19.10 yo kitty is struggling … he’s not in pain but spends much of his day in a daze of confusion … kitty dimentia … but his back legs are weak and he sometimes just crumpled into a fluffy heap where he stays till he wants to eat or drink or relieve himself.

He’s definitely winding down 🥲❤️‍🩹🥲 he’s been such a huge part of our family ~ we’ll be sad to see him go. But while he has an appetite and is moving … we’ll keep him as comfortable as possible.

That's all you can do. It's never enough time.

I made chicken bone broth/stock in the Instant Pot yesterday, an all day affair from about 7:30 am until 10:45 pm with steps still to go to package and freeze tomorrow. However, today I’m taking the spent bones and making homemade bone meal for the garden, and then I’ll make some more homemade tomato sauce from the rest of the tomatoes I have now while the spent bones are roasting.

We must not be making enough. We make broth but then we also make a giant pot of chicken noodle soup with it and eat it for multiple meals all week. Its probably because the house smells so good after that, that we just cant resist.

edit to ask, how are you making your tomato sauce? Are you just puree'ing the peeled tomato's and then cooking it up? Are you bagging it and freezing or canning it?

I use Simply Happy Foodie’s recipe for the Instant Pot. At the end I add some dried bay leaves and fresh basil. Then I put it overnight in a low oven (145 degrees F on Keep Warm with a glass lid on top) to cook off any excessive moisture and get the flavor from the bay and basil into the sauce.

Fresh Tomato Sauce using Five Pounds of Tomatoes

If you’re on Facebook, this link will show some videos I took of the end results of both of the chicken stock and the tomato sauce. I’ll need to find wayfriend’s post on the Discord for the site that converts Facebook videos to other formats, if you can’t access the Facebook one. I had it on the old phone, but apparently lost it when it died.

Bagging and freezing. I never really learned how to can, don’t have a pressure canner, and the Instant Pot is not considered safe to use for pressure canning. I don’t know if tomato sauce can be water or steamed canned, again since I never learned how to do it.

About six months til retirement. Going to my various doctors to see if I need surgery on anything.

Shoulders (rotator cuffs) were cleared. Needed shots but surgery not needed.

2 weeks hence I see about possible carpal in both wrists.

Oh. My. Stars…

So, when I was talking to Krystin Jones of Tattoos by KJ, the artist doing the decorative tattoos over my mastectomy scars, about this year’s P.ink Greater Seattle P.Ink Day event down in Tacoma, the plan was for me to show up and do my usual, i.e, walk around and distract any of the thrivers from any pain they may be feeling, take photos, etc. KJ said she also wanted to talk to me regarding something she thought I would like, but said we would talk about it once I arrived at the Meet and Greet while took pictures.

When I walked in just now, KJ greeted me with “speak of the devil!” Apparently she was discussing me with one of the thrivers and their artist. Turns out another artist showed up and KJ’s thriver is going to be worked on them, leaving KJ free.

I have just gone from volunteer to 2nd time participant!

I have no idea if all of the remaining work left to be done can be finished tomorrow, but I know KJ will make a good dent on it now before heading out of state again.

Seriously. I’m sitting here in shock. I have never heard of a participant getting to take part more than once in P.Ink Day!
