From what I've seen, no publication date is yet announced, so we probably ought not expect the book this year.

Here's what SRD had to say about it back in December.

Thanks for that. It doesn't sound promising for this year then. Shame. I really enjoyed the first book. It had that 'Donaldson ' feel at the end. Nothing else like it.

Are you quite sure that is for Donaldson's book by that title? My research suggests that what was published under that name in March of this year was a novel by H. A. Pell that is not related to Seventh Decimate or the broader Great God's War story arc.

My apologies; a typo by me. It is 2019, not 2018. There is no cover image at the moment.

Thanks, Arturia. I didn't find it earlier in the month, but now see results for a March 21, 2019 release in the UK. Still no indication of a US release date.

It's a shame Dam-sel is not a Donaldson reader. Now I can't buy the book (assuming the US release date matches the UK date) and claim it was a birthday present for her.

Looks like April 2, 2019 according to Amazon, here's the blurb about it:

It has been twenty years since Prince Bifalt of Belleger discovered the Last Repository and the sorcerous knowledge hidden there. At the behest of the repository's magisters, and in return for the restoration of sorcery to both kingdoms, the realms of Belleger and Amika ceased generations of war. Their alliance was sealed with the marriage of Bifalt to Estie, the crown princess of Amika. But the peace--and their marriage--has been uneasy.

Now the terrible war that King Bifalt and Queen Estie feared is coming. An ancient enemy has discovered the location of the Last Repository, and a mighty horde of dark forces is massing to attack the library and take the magical knowledge it guards. That horde will slaughter every man, woman, and child in its path, destroying both Belleger and Amika along the way.

With their alliance undermined by lingering hostility and conspiracies threatening, it will take all of the monarchs' strength and will to inspire their kingdoms to become one to defend their land, or all is lost....

Well, it's not Portrait of a Doof, ala Palencar. But it could be more exciting. Something could be happening. No one makes book covers where something is happening any more.

Noticing the endorsement quote...not sure that belongs on the jacket front cover. More appropriately on the back cover or on a flyleaf of the jacket.

Not commenting on the source. I know what the Watch consensus is, but Dam-sel has been a fan of Brooks for three decades and remains so...thus I must hold peace.

I received my ARC of The War Within a couple of days ago. Here are some pics showing it's size and text size compared to Seventh Decimate.

HJ, I think you're trying to show that this book is twice as much book as the previous book, yes? Which we all, I think, would consider a "good thing".
