Triock and Crossed Lightning

Post by Lazy Luke »

Why did Triock wear a pattern of crossed-lightning sewn into his tunic, and what makes it so meaningful?

The emblem had something to do with his visit to Revelwood and the training he received in some uses of the lomilliar rod.
What fascinates me is when both he and Covenant fight dead Elena on Landsdrop, when Covenant invokes the help of the Forestall, two bolts of lightning spring from the crown of the Collosus.

So, if the lightning is crossed can we assume it springs from two locations. Making this very curious!

Actually, the lightning motif worn by Triock is a family crest, like the pattern of white flowers on the garments of Lena, Trell and Atiaran. He has this on his clothes even when we first meet him in LFB, when he is a simple cowherd, before his training at Revelwood.

Sorry to pour a bit of cold water on an otherwise-intriguing theory.

Sorry SD, that's incomplete.

Triock's lomilliar was destroyed by turiya Raver. But do you know what happened to the other two rods?

One was at Revelstone and the other at Revelwood, as revealed in TPTP. One can assume the one in Revelwood was either destroyed or lost in the battle of Revelwood before that army laid siege on Revelstone. It wouldn't have done Foul or the Raver any real good as it was "tech" that was ill-suited for their use.

Yeah, like being poked with a cattle-prod, intravenously!

That being said,

If this was what you're getting at:
Lord Foul's Bane, Chapter 2

Without another word, he turned and moved away. He leaned on
his staff like an exhausted prophet, worn out with uttering visions.
His staff rang curiously on the sidewalk, as if the wood were harder
than cement.

...and in just a few short paragraphs:
The signal changed slowly, but at last it was green his way. He
stepped out on to the crosswalk.
I hadn't noticed before, the cunning use of red to green crossing lights -

thanks for the input...

... so as Covenant crosses the road when the lights change from red to green, Drool Rockworm intercepts Covenant with the staff. and Triock also intercepts Covenant with Lomilliar. The dark magic changes the moon to bloodred and also to sick emerald green.

What actually makes sense of all this, is that Triock and Troy are one and the same. Both the hand that lit the fire, and gave Drool the dark power needed to turn the moon red ...

Yes, but remember what kind of car hits Covenant. Hint: it's black and white.

Taking a closer look at something curious and trying to determine the author's intentions is not random, only speculative.
It's kinda like flipping the cap of a wrist watch to see the tiny wheels and cogs inside. Nothing more than that. Its only a book.

Not all bets. Black and white: Death and life; Troy and Triock. Without Elena, Triock could not have succeeded. Without Troy, Elena could not have failed.

That Dodge is accurate to the period, but the police interceptor model of the Ford Crown Victoria was probably the more capable LEO vehicle of the period.

Still, the local community to Haven Farm (if we know its name, it has slipped my mind) may well have these in their fleet.

Why is Troy so pivotal to Elena's failure? I see Elena more of contributor to Troy's (near-)failure than Troy being a prime cause of Elena's major error...but I don't always see the subtexts as clearly as some.

Well, I was thinking as I wrote that that Elena was free to follow Amok to the Seventh Ward because she was comfortable leaving Hile Troy to command the Warmark. Troy enabled Elena's decision to head out with Amok.

But, as I think on it now, I remember that Amok would not have ever been found in Revelwood if not for Troy spotting him and catching him.

Well then DEFINITELY Elena would not have failed if not for Troy. Amok might have simply walked away.

Although I'm sure he would have revealed himself anyway. That's why he was there, after all. Having seen that, although the conditions had not been met, he was needed.

They just keep rolling in: they would not even have gone to Revelwood at all if it weren't for Troy's crazy "remote communication" idea; nor would they have had the time to if it weren't for Troy's crazy "battle plan" idea.

(Yes, FnF, there's not much sense in what-ifs anyway, but what the heck.)

And yet, IIRC, they were the only ones with specially designed epaulettes.
