We also have a 1st amendment right to gather in worship. Something many liberal mayors and goveners were all to happy to shutdown while allowing riotsur-Nanothnir wrote:Actually I would be inclined to agree with you. Any mass gathering is a bad idea. Of course, the difference is that Americans have a constitutional right to protest, so nothing can really be done about it.Hashi Lebwohl wrote:If parties are a bad idea, then so are mass protests.

No, Sarge, the right to gather in worship was not infringed. Not really.
Sure, the accustomed forms were no longer prudent, just as the accustomed forms of daily work, education, entertainment, etc. had to change. For the most part, all such sectors made the necessary adjustments. Work became remote, as did education. We'd known this was possible for at least a decade, but it took a pandemic to break the paradigm enough to get the shift accepted.
Entertainment was already well down the virtual path. Streaming was an established thing before, but it certainly took off in the absence of live performances.
So, worship. Many congregations adapted and now host online services. Others hosted drive-in services. Other adaptations exist, short of gathering together indoors in large groups to sing praises, exhaling viri with every verse.
Clearly, some do not feel these socially-distant alternatives are adequate. I can't judge, since my faith traditions are not so dependent on collective worship. Alone or with others, it makes no difference, really.
heh. gotta love a stream of consciousness post...

You sure about that?ur-Nanothnir wrote:Literally no one has said it was okay for people to riot. The Democrats have repeatedly condemned the violence.
I don't know why you can't understand that BLM protesters =/= opportunistic rioters.
WF said black people riot because they, unlike white people, don't have power. This is not "opportunistic rioting." This is rioting with a purpose, one that apparently white people would also do if they were powerless. So it's not true that literally no one has made excuses for the rioting. We don't have to look far. It's happening right here in our message board.Wayfriend wrote:White people have power. They don't NEED to riot, and that is the ONLY reason they don't. They send in the National Guard and the riot police when they are threatened. They have power. Black people are powerless against injustice, and that's why they riot.
Focusing on the rioting without putting it into context is just another way of promoting outrage against black people.
Joe Biden … putting the Dem in dementia since (at least) 2020.

Yeah no one has officially said that.
As authoritative as Wayfriend may arguably be he is not the voice of everyone lol and he was clearly making a point
In context his point might fly
But Nano is talking about opportunism .. and it is opportunism that for the most part ... motivates looting.
Not race, not even solely about power ...
Yes rioting and looting often goes hand in hand with protesting but not always.
Biden, Harris have spoken out about any acts of criminality and that they should be prosecuted.

Apparently, Trump's been staging photo ops in order to give the impression that he is well and able to work normally. He took two photos only 10 minutes apart (the timestamps were found by looking through the metadata) while wearing two different outfits in order to trick you into thinking they were taken at different time periods and that was typical of his stay.
He also pulled an ill-advised publicity stunt where he drove around in a car outside the hospital in order to wave at supporters.
That reminds me of a Mad Max scene...
It is said that a supporter looked into the car, and Trump looked them in the eye. The Trumper exclaimed "The God-Emperor has noticed me!"
I bet you he will return to the mass rallies before the quarantine period is over, claim that the virus was nothing, and then use that to justify his pandemic policy before a crowd of soulless ghouls who will eat up every word he says.
Not to mention that there are indications he had a severe form of COVID, such as using the dexamethasone.
Stupid is as stupid does, I guess.

The master of not showing leadership .. and closing the barn door after the horse has bolted. COVID, white supremacists etc
Maybe come down off that high horse and try to focus on the facts.

And yes Nano that exactly what wayfriends point was.
Trump is a walking liability ... he put his own security personnel at risk by staging his photo-op ... all that hermetically sealed vehicle.
And exactly will the Trump campaign change HOW they run their RALLIES in future.
You’d surely hope so now that the White House has become a hot spot and taking attendants temperatures isn’t necessarily indicative of whether a person is carrying or has the virus.
We surely all know that you can test negative one day and positive the next ...
