"I would very, very much like to study those construction records. Yes, let's tell the Boss what's going on. He may be able to make some progress. I wonder if The Fox can help."

"I agree. The Fox would be an excellent companion for me at dinner. It might keep the magistrate at bay if she joins me.

"Let's tell Hester now."

So, are you going back to the inn to find Hestor? You have maybe three hours before Paula's date with the Magistrate.

With a nod, Richard says "I agree. Let's discuss it with Hestor" and starts heading in the direction of the inn.

You guys (hopefully) pay your cafe bill and set back off out of the square, back along the route you'd taken to get there earlier that afternoon. The day is starting to wind down a little - there are still people about but not as many, and some of the businesses you'd passed earlier are beginning to close up for the day. You pass back into Jovian's foreign quarter and head for the inn, finding it the same as when you left.
Entering from the street into the inn's common room, you actually spot Hestor Rum sitting at one of the tables toward the back of the room, apparently in conversation with a woman you don't recognise. She's middle-aged, brown-skinned, her curled black hair turning grey. From the way she's dressed you'd guess she's pretty well-off, but her outfit looks rather dull when placed right next to Hestor's habitual peacocking.

I move closer to Rum and the woman, making sure to stay behind her. I wait for him to see me. At which point, he is free to ignore me, or call me over for an introduction. This way, I don't interrupt anything I shouldn't. But if she's working with us, he may want all of us to meet.

As you approach the table, Hestor looks up at you and smiles broadly.
"Ah, Bela! Have you met our host?" Addressing the woman again, he says, "Julia, this is Mr Gin, my right hand man. I don't know where I'd be without him.
"Bela, this is Madam Croswen, owner of the Rested Traveller. She has just been graciously answering some questions I had about this city. It has been most enlightening," he adds with a smile in her direction.
The woman - Julia Croswen - gives a polite nod at you. "A pleasure, Mr Gin."

"Hello, Madame Croswen. It's very nice to meet you. You have a very nice inn. The food we had earlier was excellent."

[Croswen! Typo was on the first one, corrected now. The perils of pulling names out of your ass.

I'd continue the conversation except I'm aware that I haven't heard from Paula or Richard for a while and would like to know what they're doing now having arrived at the inn with Bela.]

As Bela approaches the table, Richard waits a little distance away, but within earshot. Bela addresses the owner of the Rested Traveller.

*Looks like Hester has been doing some research of his own. I look forward to a discussion once we're all alone again. *

[Richard: Are you trying to go unnoticed while you listen in, or is it more of a "yeah, I'm with this guy but I'm staying out of the conversation" thing?]

"I'm glad you think so, Mr. Gin," Madam Croswen replies. "Lord Smith was telling me he'd given his staff some time off to enjoy the city. How are you finding it so far?"

"Rather dizzying!" *chuckle* "Mr. Slade," gesturing towards Richard, "was drugged in a casino. Later, he was told to ask a man for assistance, which seemed to anger the man. And," pausing to consider events, "while trying to drink in the incredible beauty of the Temple, we met a woman I had the strongest feeling we were supposed to meet. She's from the Sprawl, and is having great difficulties with her landlord, a less than charming sounding fellow named Smoak. The short of that story is our more than charming Miss Ridgeway," nodding toward Paula with laughter in my eyes, "has a date this evening with a Magistrate Umbar Keren.

"You know," looking back and forth between Rum and Madame Croswen, "just another day!"

Richard nods slightly in Hester and Madame Croswen's direction in acknowledgement of Bela's account.

The landlord looks a little taken aback; she turns to Richard and says with shock in her voice, "You were drugged?"

"Yes, but it wasn't intended for me. I picked up the wrong beer." Richard notes with interest the shock on Madame Croswen's face. Maybe treachery it isn't the norm in this city after all...

"It was an eventful afternoon!"

"Yes, it was, most indeed," Paula chimed in.
