New name for Washington NFL team
Now that its official that the Washington NFL team will be changing its name I believe it would be a good move to maintain a similar cadence to the original nickname to allow fans some sense of familiarity.

While I'm way out in the Pacific Northwet, so may not be exposed to complaints, I've not heard any about FSU's teams name or mascots, the Seminols, and Osceola and Renegade. Perhaps because they use an actual tribal name and an historical figure?
Maybe the Washington team could be named for one of the tribes local to the area at the time of colonization? I would say local, period, if I didn't suspect they've all pretty much been forcibly moved to reservations out of the area...

I like that idea Menolly. It would need buy in and consent from the tribes no doubt, but I think that idea and sentiment is a classy one.
The drawback would be which name to pick. It seems many different tribes lived side by side before the Europeans settled in the Washington area.

For mine, I would just be done with it and call 'em the the Washington Wiseguys.

Menolly, Part of the issue is that Redskins is a perjorative. It's like naming a sports team The Dagos.
Using acceptable tribe names is different, but still weird. It's like naming a sports team The French.
As for Renegades: would you name a sports team The Betrayers?
In short, it's all as simple as looking at it from someone else's perspective.
But back on topic: The Red Menace!
