Jupiter's Legacy (Netflix)

Post by High Lord Tolkien »

I just finished Jupiter's Legacy.
I highly recommend it.
Season 1 is only 8 shows so check it out.

I really like new (to me anyway) superhero stories.
It's fresh and different.
It proves that creativity can still exist in the comic book superhero genre.

Rotten Tomatoes gave it:
37% by Critics
72% by Audiences

Critics don't like superhero stuff so this proves to me that it's good.

I watched it, I liked it, I read that Season 2 is canceled.

Thanks, Netflix.

A show about superheroes that's not merely "can we punch harder than the bad guy?" and they cancel it.

Watched it until the big reveal over who the big bad was, and as I was hoping they weren't going to go there because it was just so obvious, I quit. It's basically The Boys without the guts.
"It is not the literal past that rules us, save, possibly, in a biological sense. It is images of the past. Each new historical era mirrors itself in the picture and active mythology of its past or of a past borrowed from other cultures. It tests its sense of identity, of regress or new achievement against that past.”

I thought the reveal was...interesting(?) depending on where they went with it.
There were a lot of threads going on.
My favorite was whether the Code or Family was more important.

As I type this I want to watch it again.
I really liked the asteroid or comet thing was handled so behind the scenes.

It's an interesting enough premise that I'm thinking of picking up the comics to finish the story, but... eh. Most comics disappoint me.

Still, the scene where uncle whats-his-name says "I still regret not getting involved in the second World War," is what hooked me.

That's what it all comes down to. People who want to make the world a better place, with extraordinary gifts, trying to decide the best way to do so. The actual punching is secondary to all that.

I read the comics (my local library had the collected volumes) and they did, in fact, disappoint me. The show was doing much better with the same premise and ideas.
