Some eye-opening stuff. If we forget, the movement becomes hollow ritual.

I remember Invisible Man from college. Powerful book!

So here I am, sitting at the computer instead of at work, because of this man. As with many American holidays, the meaning is often lost. I remember a BC comic from the Sunday paper. The one character often sent messages (he wrote them on something, and floated them away) to some unknown person across the water. He once told this person about Memorial Day; how we have picnics and parties and such. The person wrote back: "You people are a lot sicker than we thought."

So everybody go read I Have a Dream. This man was a genius. The speech is enthralling! He was also among the best people. As a student of Gandhi's way, he met injustice and brutality with hope, peace, and love.

Another bump...

Time again to celebrate the life of one of the great ones.

In this time of war, where peace seems to be nothing more than an illusion, let this man's voice sing out to us all the song of hope.

Rest in peace, Dr. King...

:hearts:
And I believe in you
altho you never asked me too
I will remember you
and what life put you thru.

Another year...another bump

Early morning, April 4
Shot rings out in the Memphis sky
Free at last, they took your life
They could not take your pride

In the name of love
What more in the name of love
In the name of love
What more in the name of love

Peace...
And I believe in you
altho you never asked me too
I will remember you
and what life put you thru.

Here we are again...

And this year, as we inaugurate a new president, it seems we have come that much closer to fulfilling this beautiful dream. One step closer to that "promised land" he spoke about.

The Rising--Bruce Springsteen

Cant see nothin in front of me
Cant see nothin coming up behind
I make my way through this darkness
I cant feel nothing but this chain that binds me
Lost track of how far Ive gone
How far Ive gone, how high Ive climbed
On my backs a sixty pound stone
On my shoulder a half mile of line

Come on up for the rising
Come on up, lay your hands in mine
Come on up for the rising
Come on up for the rising tonight

Left the house this morning
Bells ringing filled the air
Wearin the cross of my calling
On wheels of fire I come rollin down here

Come on up for the rising
Come on up, lay your hands in mine
Come on up for the rising
Come on up for the rising tonight

Theres spirits above and behind me
Faces gone black, eyes burnin bright
May their precious blood bind me
Lord, as I stand before your fiery light

I see you mary in the garden
In the garden of a thousand sighs
Theres holy pictures of our children
Dancin in a sky filled with light
May I feel your arms around me
May I feel your blood mix with mine
A dream of life comes to me
Like a catfish dancin on the end of my line

Sky of blackness and sorrow ( a dream of life)
Sky of love, sky of tears (a dream of life)
Sky of glory and sadness ( a dream of life)
Sky of mercy, sky of fear ( a dream of life)
Sky of memory and shadow ( a dream of life)
Your burnin wind fills my arms tonight
Sky of longing and emptiness (a dream of life)
Sky of fullness, sky of blessed life

Come on up for the rising
Come on up, lay your hands in mine
Come on up for the rising
Come on up for the rising tonight

Come on up for the rising indeed... :)

It's also a call for a National Day of Service, being heralded by Michelle Obama. Tam, the Princess Elora and I will out in the "mini-desert" (where we walk all the time) picking up trash today. That way we won't have to join some group, "Don't touch me!"

Thanks for the bump, Furls. :)

I found myself singing "Abraham, Martin and John" earlier today.

Anybody here seen my old friend Abraham?
Can you tell me where he's gone?
He freed lotta people but it seems the good they die young
You know I just looked around and he's gone

Anybody here seen my old friend John?
Can you tell me where he's gone?
He freed lotta people but it seems the good they die young
I just looked around and he's gone

(brief instrumental interlude-organ)

Anybody here seen my old friend Martin?
Can you tell me where he's gone?
He freed lotta people but it seems the good they die young
I just looked around and he's gone

Didn't you love the things that they stood for?
Didn't they try to find some good for you and me?
And we'll be free
Some day soon, it's gonna be one day

Anybody here seen my old friend Bobby?
Can you tell me where he's gone?
I thought I saw him walkin' up over the hill
With Abraham, Martin, and John

Can't wait 'til tomorrow. :)

Mom's tribute thread needs a bump...

"Faith is taking the first step, even when you don't see the whole staircase." Martin Luther King Jr.

Pride...in the name of love...

For Myles--
When evening shadows and the stars appear
And there is no one to dry your tears
I could hold you for a million years
To make you feel my love

For Mom--
Did you ever know that you're my hero,
and everything I would like to be?
I can fly higher than an eagle,
for you are the wind beneath my wings.

Fly...fly high against the sky...
Thank you, thank you, thank God for you
The wind beneath my wings

Holy cow. Been too long since this thread was bumped. I miss you, Tracie.

And I Have a Dream is still as fresh and inspiring as the day he gave it.
