Map discrepancy perhaps

Post by Glorifindal »

I have just reread the Illearth war and just opened TPTP ... I checked the map at the start of the book against the description of the IW campaign ... it looks wrong. When Fleshharrower saw them leave Dooms Retreat he laughed as he could see them heading to Garroting Deep ... but they went first to Doriendor Corishev ... which, in the map, is the opposite direction.

Or have I got it wrong somehow?

Both Garroting Deep and Doriendor Corishev are map-west of Doom's Retreat.
To that extent, I think SRD's geography is consistent.

Bear in mind that on the map used for the First Chrons, the forest of Garroting Deep is huge, and that there is clearly a lot of challenging topography around it. Hile Troy's exhausted army marches from Doom's Retreat to Doriendor Corishev on the flattest route they can, then they approach the forest from the south at Cravenhaw.

Many thanks for the answers - especially with the outlines on the map.

Sadly, I used a Second Chronicles map, which excludes the forests of the Land.

Garroting Deep, the forest, stretches from the Last Hills all the way down to Cravenhaw. If you don't catch on that Troy's army approached the forest from the south, it's easy to get mixed up on the map. Took me some puzzling myself.
