CoCoRaHS - measuring the rain

Post by Damelon »

CoCoRaHS or the Community Collaborative Rain Hail and Snow Network, is a group dedicated to measuring rain and snowfall. Active in the US, Canada and the Bahamas daily readings are taken and submitted with options to make special reports if there is a significant weather event.

A specific rain gauge has to be purchased, about $40, and has to be mounted on a fence or a post away from the house or trees if possible.

The results are used by the National Weather Service and others for a variety of purposes. Flood and drought prediction, agricultural forecasts, etc. I joined about a month ago and already had my readings cited by the local weather service office.

I look at it as my part in measuring the changing climate. More information at the link.
