Happy Southern Solstice 2022!

Post by Damelon »

The December Solstice occurs today at 21:48 UTC. Will they do anything at Stonehenge?

Hey, remember the episode of West Wing when they had the cartographers? That was excellent.

I never really watched West Wing. Had to look it up. Pretty good.

I thought more that the southern hemisphere is pointing closer to the big yellow ball and that it's going to be summer down there rather than winter.

Yeah, it was more free association on my part.

But seriously, West Wing is an awesome show. And that's coming from one who doesn't know much about politics. The humor and the characters and their interactions are great.

Sunrise where I live today is 5:29am and sunset is 8:49pm. We have a long twilight, so it gets dark around 9:30pm or so. I guess it's our longest day.

More useless but interesting (at least, to me :D) facts from StevieG!

Since the Solstice occured at 9:48 PM in Britain, long after sunset, English Heritage Society live streamed this morning's, December 22nd's, sunrise on Facebook. The recorded version of the sunrise is on their Facebook page.

Oh my goodness--I sure remember that West Wing episode!!

I actually re-watched the exact clip on YouTube a couple months ago, because I was thinking of dropping it into an online conversation on Discord.
It was great. :D
"People without hope not only don't write novels, but what is more to the point, they don't read them.
They don't take long looks at anything, because they lack the courage.
The way to despair is to refuse to have any kind of experience, and the novel, of course, is a way to have experience."
-Flannery O'Connor
