Not quite what I was looking for.

But it's nicer looking than otherwise. I would just keep doing that.

Okay, I played Wordle (New York Times) so I could do a little debugging.
This info is for Avatar and Vain, who may know how to do something with it.

The Wordle Share button produces Unicode Text.
The text contains
-- a U+2B1C character for a grey square with a black outline
-- a U+1F7E8 character for a yellow square with a black outline
-- a U+1F7E9 character for a green square with a black outline
This can be pasted into the post/reply window just fine.

However, when phpBB3 renders this as a post, it makes some replacements.
-- U+2B1C is replaced with an image, src="//twemoji.maxcdn.com/2/svg/2b1c.svg".
-- U+1F7E8 is replaced with an image, src="//twemoji.maxcdn.com/2/svg/1f7e8.svg".
-- U+1F7E9 is replaced with an image, src="//twemoji.maxcdn.com/2/svg/1f7e9.svg".
In all cases, the original unicode character is used as the "alt" text for the image.

//twemoji.maxcdn.com/2/svg/2b1c.svg is a functional url for a grey square with rounded corners and no outline.
So this works perfectly.
But the other two URLs do not work. //twemoji.maxcdn.com does not have these images.
When they don't work, you get the bad image icon, plus the alt text, which is the unicode character for the square with the black outline.,

Note that when you use [code] or reply, it is rendered without this substitution, and it looks great.

twemoji is the twitter emoji source.
I don't know why they don't have any emojis in the 1F7xx range.
I don't know if they ever did.

These URLs work as replacements.
https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/ ... _1f7e8.svg
https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/ ... _1f7e9.svg
(There may be other places which source svg images like this.)

So, in conclusion,
- Find the code in kevinswatch phpbb3 that tries to use //twemoji.maxcdn.com/2/svg/1f7e8.svg and //twemoji.maxcdn.com/2/svg/1f7e9.svg.
- replace the URLs with the ones above.
It may be part of smilies replacement code.
Possibly you can just remove the substitutions altogether if people like the squares with the black outlines.

It's a somewhat different skillset. Since I don't play, the comparison I make is that while Dam-sel excels at similar games (like crosswords or Wheel of Fortune), I am more skilled at trivia games like Jeopardy! Like Fred Sanford, I have a mind full of junk.

Hiking yesterday, we joked about having a heart attack and dying on the trail. I said, "This is the big one! I'm coming to join you, Elizabeth!" I had to explain that to Christy. Apparently, I robbed the cradle.

Awesome thanks. There may be a couple ways around it. I'll chat to Vain since he will be a lot better at it than me. :D

We should start an Oops...I Did It Again thread to park these sorts of things :)

Well...I could tidy up by deleting those posts, but will leave it all for the "thread drift" fun.

I gotta ask…
Was this posted after you asked me if you should clean up the thread and I replied:

[considers his possible responses]

Yes, of course I asked for your advice as a fellow mod. To have not acted in accordance with that counsel would have disrespected the input I requested, nu?

I also considered that some still value post count, and to delete extraneous-but-inoffensive posts causes marginal post-count reductions. Better to limit deletes to those missives that truly deserve that treatment.

Yes, Av's goad about me taking modly action was somewhat motivating to go forward with tidying...but despite you being personally to the left of Trotsky, the modding philosophy you teach is conservative and minimalist. I acted accordingly.
