Sick of the religious/science threads
Hi all,
If you are all sick of these religion versus science threads, please post here! I'm honestly tired of seeing them because someone we all know gets upset when people disagree with him yet is hypocritical enough to attack anyone and any belief he pleases. I like religion and I like religious people, I'm just tired of the threads popping up trying to show us all that religion is right, and science and anyone that go against religion is wrong.

I agree, who is this person that should bother us with his beliefs? I don't really care who he is or what his beliefs are. This has got to stop. I don’t think that other groups should be able to disagree with science & speak about Christ, God, or the Holy Spirit. I find it sickening that in today’s society, talk about Christianity is still allowed. Zeph should be banned, hate-mailed, burned, hung, and crucified for bothering us with his beliefs. I can’t believe that anyone would talk about what *THEY* believe around here. Sheesh, I mean unless its on the acceptable list of things to talk about that is, things we like, and won’t bash, then he can talk about anything he wants. But this God stuff has got to go. Enough is enough. There is no God! Stop talking about it!

Actually, it isn't a one or the other. I for one accept a lot of science. I like science. I like thinking about scientific things. It's very interesting. I'm merely fascinated with the fact that most scientists disregard Christianity.Fist and Faith wrote:As there isn't any incompatability between science and religion, I don't see the need for the "you must believe one or the other" kind of thread.

I for one like both science and the bible. I accept 'religion' as neccessary for spiritual growth, but all too often religion oversteps it's intended purposes, and I believe that's where the problems Ur-Vile mentions begins. Also, I'd like to mention one of my favourite religions of late; scientology. Thank you, scientologey, for making Nicole Kidman available again! Now, if we could only get Catherine Zeta Jones back.....

It's not that Zeph... It's the way you talk about your beliefs that's the problem... You act as if any person who does not believe in God is insulting him. Or slandering your religion... This is not the case... You also are very narrow minded when talking abou your religion... You act as though it is the only truth... can everything else is wrong... I wouldn't mind you expressing your opinions on Religion... If only you acted differently towards other peoples opinions... If they don't believe in God... that doesn't mean they are criticizing him... It's just their belief... except theirs... and they will except yours.Zephalephelah wrote:I agree, who is this person that should bother us with his beliefs? Then I'll have to get more creative. I thought this was a good one though.CovenantJr wrote:Yeeeeessss.... I don't have a problem with the topics, just that they are all much the same, just with a slightly different "trigger" each time. Relativity and God, space exploration and God... We could do with one big "Science and God - harmonious family or squabbling siblings?" thread, IMO.
As a practicing Christian who once worked in evolutionary genetics research (and who is married to another practicing Christian who works as a research programmer in a pharmaceutical company and uses evolutionary principles every hour of every workday) I see no conflict between science, up to and including Darwin's contributions, and religion.
St. Thomas Aquinas affirmed that if the truths of nature and religious revelation appear to contradict each other, one or both has been misunderstood.
To put it quite bluntly, discussing the alleged conflicts (or litmus-tests of either/or loyalty) between science and religion is not what I came to Kevin's Watch to do.
Religious polemics affects me like trying to drink sand.
See y'all in the main Donaldsonian fora, where the signal to noise ratio is always excellent.

To be honest with you, Revan, I feel the same way. It's pretty much the definition of faith. I'm also very narrow minded about any other thing I believe to be the truth; and let's face it, there can only be one truth. We all are narrow minded about the truth. It's only annoying when you deal with people who don't agree with you.....Darth Revan wrote:You also are very narrow minded when talking about your religion... Very well put, Durris.Durris wrote:Religious polemics affects me like trying to drink sand.
Since we know that religion is a sore subject here at the moment, it should be avoided by all, by mutual consent. That is how communities stay communities.
Danlo, your Inner Garden thread is a delight, but surely you knew who would be drawn to it like a magnet, guns blazing.
I am not going to be responding to any religious posts, and I urge that the rest of us not do so, either. Moderators also have a duty here.

Tell us what you're really thinking. You seem to skirt the lines quite a bit with your statement.
At any rate, I think that God is a valid topic of discussion. And anyway, I put away my guns, if you care to notice.
Let me ask you something Joy, is there something that is a part of you that encompasses everything in some fashion? Perhaps it is curiosity or maybe courage? Then wouldn't you speak of it always? If it was something dear to you?
For example, a woman loves her children. People are talking & she says, yeah my kid does stuff like that. It might not even really apply, but she loves her kids. So she talks about them.
it's the same with God and me. I like to talk about it. I'm learning how to talk about it more effectively. I never rammed anything down anyone's throat here, never said that you need to get God. I just like to talk about God. And I'm learning how to be more effective by detaching my emotions when I see someone post something negative against my beliefs. I'll try to move on, or I'll post about the disagreement without insult. I think that you should step back and take a look at what I've been doing recently. What have you done for me lately kinda thing...

Hey, I think Joy looks very nice in a skirt with lines. I believe she has considerable fashion courage, whatever that is.

Indeed. I favour vertical ones, thus detracting from the bosom. dAN, give it a go. You never know. Let's have a fashion forum, with dAN as moderator and overlord.
The reality is in this head. Mine. I'm the projector at the planetarium, all the closed little universe visible in the circle of that stage is coming out of my mouth, eyes, and sometimes other orifices also.
