There are two possible answers, my son.
1. The Osgiliath-stone was the master
palantír, bigger than any of the others; it was kept in the Dome of Stars, and was lost when the city of Osgiliath was sacked in the Kin-strife.
But the answer I think you're looking for is:
2. The stone kept at Elostirion in the Tower Hills looked directly over the Sea to the Undying Lands. Unlike the others, it could not be focused on places in Middle-earth. The Elostirion-stone was snaffled (by Gandalf I believe) when the Ringbearers and the last of the Noldor passed over Sea at the end of the Third Age.

If so, I'll carry on with a new question:
Who killed Thrór, King under the Mountain, grandfather of Thorin Oakenshield? (Bonus points for naming the famous event that happened because of that killing.)
